Rear differential yoke leaking

Just had mechanic replace rear pinion seal because of leak. Began leaking less than 20 miles of driving and under a day. Now they are saying it is the rear yoke that has play and is causing the seal to get torn up. What extra labor is actually involved versus the pinion seal replacement?

Rear axle question
ANSWER : The leak on the axle seal may be minor if you did not notice the level to be low when you checked it. I cannot say it will last for 2 and a half hours of driving, since this is when the differential will get the hottest and may leak worse. I suggest having a mechanic diagnose your oil leak and have it repaired before going on the trip, since a cheap repair now may become an expensive repair if you drive it and the rear end locks up after it lost all its oil.

ANSWER : There are two different places it may be leaking if not from a cracked housing at one of the pan bolt holes. The rear tail shaft housing or the shift linkage shaft seal could be leaking. Have the areas cleaned and vehicle run on a lift to isolate where it is coming from.
