Passenger side view mirror popped off.

Hi,

After parking my car in a parking lot, I noticed that the Passenger Side View Mirror had "popped off." it's attached by the motor's wire. The socket itself does not appear broken and I am able to put it back together; however, it doesn't stay in place.
Is there a special technique to "Pop" it back in?

Thank you!

My car has 21000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi there. The passenger side view mirror on your vehicle may not appear broken but, being that you are unable to reattach the housing and have it stay leads me to believe it needs to be replaced. How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

The process of fixing your car mirror is as simple as lining it up in its housing and pressing it back into place with even pressure. If the mirror does not pop back into place, you could have a broken component within the housing.
If you need to re-attach the side mirror, use a super-strength adhesive such as Loctite Super Glue Liquid Universal. Do not use it for the glass itself, though. For this, Loctite Super Glue Glass is ideal. It creates strong, invisible bonds in just a few seconds.
It is not illegal to drive with a single broken mirror, but you do need to be careful. The mirror needs to be secure to the vehicle so that it doesn`t fall off. You also want to make sure that the glass is stable enough so you won`t be leaving broken glass all over the place.
Most wing mirrors are designed to snap back into place if they hit something at low speeds. It depends on how fast you`re travelling and how hard you hit your mirror against the offending article.
On average, one broken side mirror will set you back by about $299, with the final price heavily relying on two components. The first one is the cost of materials, which ranges from $139 and $328. The second one is labor cost; here, an additional $90 is usually added to the price.
You can also repair a mirror crack using a specialized resin-based repair kit. Because each of these kits is unique, you`ll want to follow the instructions included with your repair kit. This option works best for mirrors with small gaps resulting from cracks, as the resin fills the gap to restore a mirror`s surface.
So, if your state`s traffic laws require that a car have one or two side-view mirrors, and one of your side mirrors is broken, you can be pulled over and ticketed. Fortunately, if it is just a matter of a broken side mirror, many states allow officers to issue “Fix-It” tickets.
Remove the screws that hold the mirror and remove it from the door. Attach the new mirror. Reconnect the electrical connector and make sure you test the new side view mirror before putting the parts back into place. Reverse the entire procedure to reassemble the door trim panel.
Wing mirrors are a vital part of a car that we don`t fully appreciate until they break. Thankfully, when they do break they`re usually pretty easy to repair or replace – depending on the extent of the damage.
More commonly in cars manufactured since the 2000s, side mirrors may be manually or electrically folded in, to protect them when the car is parked or being washed in an automated car wash. Passing cars can easily clip protruding side mirrors; the folding capability helps protect them from harm.
Put a thin bead of silicone around the edge of the mirror or inside lip of the frame. Carefully align the mirror to the back and press it into place. If the picture frame has a backing material, you could also attach the mirror to that instead and use it to secure the mirror inside the frame.
If your mirror has cracks or is shattered, you want to prevent it from breaking further and creating a hazard. Use duct tape or masking tape to cover the surface. Any stray pieces of glass will stick to the glue of the tape, so you can avoid the risk of getting hurt as you dispose the mirror.
If you want to fix a cracked mirror, use super glue, clear nail polish, or epoxy resin adhesive and tape. You can find mirror paint at most hardware or craft stores.
Car side mirror repair typically entails one or more of these parts: the base (mirror assembly), mirror glass, cover and the turn signal (if equipped). And while many of these individual components can be repaired depending on the extent of the damage, oftentimes complete side mirror replacement is necessary.
Don`t be tempted to use any construction glue for mirror installation. Mirrors have a unique surface, therefore need a specialized glue that is scientifically designed to hold it safely in place. The right glue for hanging mirrors is Loctite PL 530 Mirror, Marble, & Granite Adhesive.
You can use some epoxy glues for car side mirror repairs. For example, Loctite Epoxy Gel is suitable for outdoor and vertical applications and creates strong, impact-resistant bonds with several materials you find on vehicles, including metal and many rigid plastics. Epoxies are suited for repairing mirror housings.

Power mirror on passenger side will not retain it’s setting driver side works perfect.
ANSWER : A technician with an advanced scan tool can verify the issue. The mirror system is complex and involves many modules. The Body Control Module is a possible cause, but it’s doubtful; replacement requires reprogramming, which requires special equipment. I would check the driver’s and passenger’s door modules; toggle or move the switch on the driver’s side to see if it causes the problem, and ensure that the mirror glass itself is not loose on the passenger’s side mirror assembly.

Without diagnosing the problem with advanced equipment, the issue is hard to diagnose. A qualified YourMechanic technician can show up to the location of your vehicle with a scan tool to inspect and diagnose your power mirror issue.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.

I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.

Side mirrors will adjust, but not the rear view mirror
ANSWER : Hello! The rearview mirror is not electronically controlled like the side mirrors. To move the rearview mirror you just grab it with your hand and slightly twist it into the position that you wish. My information indicates that there is a section in your owner’s manual referring to the adjustment of the rearview mirror.

If it’s still unable to be adjusted and you think it needs to be fixed, contact a qualified mechanic who can replace your rearview mirror at your own convenience.

I can’t roll the rear passenger window up from either the drivers side or the passenger side. Could it be the regulator rather than the switches?
ANSWER : Hi there. If you are hearing a clicking sound as the window is trying to roll up or down, then either the regulator motor is burned and needs replaced or the track that the window rides on is broken. If you need further assistance with your passenger window motor not working, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Large driver-side mirror blocked view and caused accident
ANSWER : You can check with the dealer to see if they have an alternative mirror for you. I am not aware of any aftermarket mirrors for your vehicle or a solution for this. When a vehicle like your 2016 Audi Q5 is this new, there is typically not any aftermarket parts made yet.

Large driver-side mirror blocked view and caused accident
ANSWER : Hello there, the mirror issue is not a common one. Your Audi Q5 comes equipped with the standard size mirrors unless some sort of aftermarket extension or additional mirror was added.

The most likely cause of the mirror issue is either the mirrors are not adjusted properly or the seating position is to low. The easiest solution may be to raise the seat. It would not be a simple matter to change the mirrors out.

If you decide to get this fixed, enlist a qualified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, who will be able to help you replace your mirrors to something you prefer.

My window on my passenger side won’t roll down and the lock button doesn’t lock the doors.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Your issue is most likely a switch. The window motor would not effect the door lock functions. The only true way to know is to test the power available to the switch and see if it is passing through, or making it to the motor. Where the power stops and is not utilized, is the component that has failed. If the power supply is not making it to the switch, then you have another wiring or fuse issue. Without doing some electrical testing, you may want to start with replacing the switch. For more help with diagnosis and resolving the issue, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.
