Over heating after 5mins of driving
I got the water pump and thermostat and cap and valve all replaced. Now the issue is it wants to over heat within 5 mins of driving it, we burped it at least 20 time this week. Checked the pressure test this summer on the head gaskets and it tested out fine. Running out of ideas of what could be wrong, if you know please let me know.
My car has 153000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. Here is a quick test to check something. If you turn your heater on, is it blowing hot air? If not, the issue is with your heater core; either an obstruction of coolant inside the system or a fault with the temperature release valve that sends coolant to the heater core. Besides that, if your fuel / air mixture is a bit lean, it could also be the source of this problem. Try inspecting those components, but if you need an extra pair of eyes to help you diagnose this issue, please contact one of our professional mobile mechanics to come to your location and complete a car is overheating inspection.
How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Engines can overheat for many reasons. In general, it`s because something`s wrong within the cooling system and heat isn`t able to escape the engine compartment. The source of the issue could include a cooling system leak, faulty radiator fan, broken water pump, or clogged coolant hose.
There are a variety of reasons that a vehicle can overheat, such as cooling system leaks, blocked hoses from corrosion and mineral deposits, radiator issues or broken water pumps. Regular inspections may help avoid overheating issues down the road. Come in today for a consultation on your coolant/antifreeze fluid.
Low Coolant: Perhaps the most common reason for your car to overheat quickly is low coolant in the engine. If there isn`t enough coolant, the engine`s temperature cannot be regulated correctly.
Why does my Car only Overheat when I Accelerate Quickly or Drive Hard? Assuming everything is in working order, this typically is because you have an undersized radiator for your application.
The most common is low oil level, spark plugs, fuel pump, plug wires, low oil pressure, piston rings, or engine mechanical damage.
It gets even more concerning and confusing when car overheating suddenly returns to normal. This phenomenon can happen for many reasons, like a bad thermostat, a faulty radiator, or a coolant leak. As such, it`s best to get your car checked by a professional— like RepairSmith!

Why is my car overheating but it has coolant in it? It could be that the coolant concentration is not correct, or you may have a bad thermostat, a failed water pump, broken drive belt, or a bad radiator or radiator fan.
This could include problems with the radiator, water pump, or fan belt. If any part of your car`s cooling system is not functioning properly, your engine may be at risk of overheating. Another possible cause for engine overheating during idle is low fluid levels in the radiator, such as coolant or antifreeze.

How long can a car overheat before damage occurs? It only takes 30-60 seconds of overheating for permanent damage to infiltrate a vehicle. As soon as you notice signs of overheating, you need to act. Failure to do so might result in troubles like coolant leaks, damaged radiator caps, and a faulty cooling fan.
By a large margin, the most common cause for engine overheating is simply a low coolant level. Your engine`s cooling system relies on coolant to circulate and remove heat from the engine. If you don`t have enough coolant in there to do the job, heat will build up and your engine will overheat.

A/C and heat are not working properly. Car blows heat in summer and cool air in winter.
ANSWER : Common causes of no cabin heat include malfunctioning blend door(s) (part of the in-dash ventilation network), a faulty or stuck heater control valve, a plugged heater core, stuck open engine cooling thermostat, collapsed hoses, and low coolant level. The cost to resolve the problem depends on which of the foregoing faults is the cause. If you desire a diagnostic to determine exactly why there is no cabin heat, please request a non functioning cabin heater diagnostic and the responding mechanic will come right to your location and get this resolved for you promptly.
With regard to your air conditioning system, if merely re-charging the system restored normal operation but the a/c ceased to function after a month or so, that scenario typically suggests a leak. Some leaks are really cheap to repair, like if a couple o-rings need to be replaced in system piping but if the leak is at the compressor shaft seal, that repair is more costly. It is not expensive to find the leak and diagnose the system and once the leak is found the mechanic can let you know of the exact cost to repair the leak and re-charge the system. If you desire that service please request an a/c system diagnostic – suspected refrigerant leak and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you
Can front wheel drive car engine power rear wheel drive
ANSWER : Anything is possible with enough engineering. The changes you are looking at would take major structural changes and would definitely not be an easy job. You could possibly consult a manufacturing engineer to get more details on how this could actually be carried out and whether it would be feasible.
Heat inside car stays warm for minute then blows cold until I turn heat off for a minute and try again.
ANSWER : Hi there. The engine always at operating temperature leads me to believe, the thermostat is not the cause, for no heat inside the vehicle. There are several possibilities for no heat inside, the heater control valve is malfunctioning, the heater core is restricted, the temperature blend door actuator is malfunctioning. Replacing components without diagnoses, can be expensive and time consuming without resolution. I recommend having your vehicle’s inoperative heater be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.
Car won’t drive after over heating on the highway
ANSWER : Hi there. Most of the time when you overheat this engine it will also cause the transmission to get too hot. When this occurs it can easily cause transmission failure. I would suspect this if the vehicle does not move at all. If it move but is severely lacking power then you either have some serious internal engine damage or a failure in the catalytic converter from the overheating. It sounds like it is the transmission though. I would recommend having a transmission specialist take a look at it.
Heater not working reliably, is it caused by a bad thermostat?
ANSWER : From what you’ve described, it sounds like you have a stuck open thermostat. I’d recommend replacing the thermostat to see if this is the cause of the slow heat up of the vehicle since it’s a relatively quick repair. In an area like that it sounds like you’ll will need the heat in the winter very badly and as soon as possible. I would also recommend getting a coolant flush as it may help clear any possible blockage in the heater core. To avoid any unnecessary repairs, consider YourMechanic, as one of our mobile technicians can come to your home or office to diagnose your heating issue and make the necessary repairs.
While driving my drive decided not engage when I had to stop
ANSWER : Hello. The traction light is like a check engine light for your steering and suspension system. A technician could use a scan tool to pull any error codes to help pinpoint which component is faulty. I believe the problem your vehicle is having is a faulty shift solenoid. The transmission control module sends a signal to the shift solenoid for the shift solenoid to control the transmission shifting. By you paddle shifting you are basically bypassing the shift solenoid because you are controlling the transmission shifting yourself. If the shift solenoid fails completely you will not even be able to use the paddle shift function. It will be best to have your vehicle inspected by technician as soon as possible. idle is low and engine light flashes when I drive.
ANSWER : Hello, and thank you for writing in. The vehicle may be having many types of problems. With a lack of power and a ticking sound, we must look at the level of the oil and the drive belt. Both can cause similar symptoms and noises. If your oil is low, then you have a leak and you need to turn your attention to finding it. If the belt is broken, frayed, loose, or a pulley is bad, then you will need to replace the belt and take any further corrective action. If these components check out, then you should turn your attention to the charging system and make sure the battery and alternator are working correctly. If necessary you can then resort to testing for proper fuel pressure, spark power, and look into the air intake system. My car will only shift into reverse and neutral, can’t get it into the drive gear
ANSWER : This may be a result of low transmission fluid or potentially a faulty transmission control module. A faulty transmission control module may cause a delay in acceleration or erratic shifting of gears. The transmission control module has various sensors such as vehicle speed sensors, wheel speed sensors, throttle position sensors, turbine speed sensor, and transmission fluid temperature sensors that all direct information to it in order for it to perform it’s function. Other functions controlled by the TCM are components such as a kick down switch, traction control system, and cruise control module. Any of these may also affect the way the transmission control module performs and controls the transmission and the shifting of your vehicle. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to your location to properly diagnose your transmission problem.
