So I'm wondering how to get back there.? Is there any way around taking the dash off.? And I also have a aftermartket stereo I'd like to install but can't until I can power it. Thanks for any help I'm advance. 98 Chevy Malibu

Press and hold the audio system`s volume/power knob for about 3 seconds or until the system resets.
Dial 1-800-537-5140 to connect with GM`s toll-free radio hotline. Once you`re connected, you`ll be asked to provide your vehicle`s radio identification number, along with a special dealer access code. You`ll then be rewarded with a 4-digit retrieval code, which will allow you to unlock your radio.
The most common reasons a Chevrolet Malibu won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
Most likely the battery was disconnected. There may be a code and the info on how to reset it in the owners manual. If you can`t find it you will have to take it to the dealer and have them reset it. 16 people think this is helpful.
You can reset your car`s radio without the code by turning on the car but not the engine and switching the radio off. Then, hold the radio power button down for a couple of minutes until the reset is achieved. A reset on your car insurance may be in order as well if you feel you are overpaying for your coverage.
Turn your car on, but do not start the engine. Turn the radio off. Hold the radio power button down for a few minutes until it resets.
Some of the most common include transmission problems, electrical issues, and interior accessory faults. Still, none come close to the damage the worst models might sustain. If you invest in one of these models, you can feel comfortable on the road.
If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
This system is designed to lock the radio from use in the event of a loss of power, either from being disconnected or when the battery loses its charge.
Blown Fuse

The most likely reason for your radio`s sudden death is a blown fuse. All car radios have at least one fuse that protects it from power surges coming from somewhere else in the vehicle. The first thing you should do when your radio stops working is check its fuses and replace any that have blown.

Some of the most common issues include a blown fuse, bad or damaged wiring, and anti-theft modes that are often triggered when the battery dies. In order to track down the reason that your car radio won`t turn on, you`ll want to tackle each of these potential issues one at a time.
A car radio will have at least one fuse to protect the unit from things like power surges or other electrical issues. If too much current is sent to the audio system, this fuse will blow out and disconnect the circuit to save the main radio. On newer models, there are a variety of fuses for the entertainment system.
If the manufacturer that built your vehicle offers online code lookup, you typically enter your VIN, the serial number of the radio, and contact information, including phone number and email. The code may be emailed to you for your records.
An electronic device called a radio transmitter applies oscillating electric current to the antenna, and the antenna radiates the power as radio waves. Radio waves are received by another antenna attached to a radio receiver.
A car stereo gets its power from the battery. Therefore, if the battery does not work, the stereo may not work. On the flip side, even if the car battery works well, the stereo may have different problems. Read on to know more about what to do when your car stereo does not turn on.

The best years of the Chevrolet Malibu are: 2021, 2017-2019, 2014-2015, 2012-2013, 2010-2011, 2008, and 2006. The years you should absolutely avoid are: 2007, 2004-2005, 2001-2003, 2009, 2016, and 2020. Most issues are related to the engine, specifically the variable valve timing system.
However, one of the most reported 2018 Chevy Malibu problems is its electrical system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) lists numerous customer complaints about the 2018 Chevy Malibu`s failure to recognize when the vehicle is in “Park,” which means that they cannot turn the car off.

If your vehicle`s battery goes dead or is disconnected, you can open the trunk from the rear seat by pulling the trunk release handle. Reach the handle through the trunk pass- through.
Possible causes of a power failure could be either bad battery connections, a bad ignition switch, or a bad alternator. What you need to do is check your vehicle`s power sources.
The most likely issue is that a component is clogged. A clogged fuel filter is the most common reason, although a loss of power in your car could also indicate problems with the fuel pump or fuel line. Impurities or debris may be blocking the system, which causes the loss of power in a car.
A cracked touch screen is one of the main reasons that lead to an unresponsive car stereo screen. Check out for visible damages. If the screen has cracks or visible damage, you probably need to repair it. Sometimes, even minute scratches can lead to a faulty touch screen for your car stereo.
Data loss: Performing a RESET procedure will erase the clock settings and some stored content. Some models don`t have a designated reset button. Check your manual for which buttons you need to use to reset.

Car radio will not pick up radio stations.
ANSWER : There are multiple issues that could cause a radio to not pick up an AM / FM signal. In most cases it’s due to faulty wiring, a loose ground wire or the wiring running to and from the antenna. However, it’s also possible that an internal component inside the radio such as an electrical relay has been damaged. It might be best to purchase a new tuner; as diagnosing and fixing this issue would most likely be more expensive than the cost of buying and installing a new one.

No power windows, overhead lights, or power to dash cluster
ANSWER : Hi there. This can happen for a few different reasons. The most common being that the computer will shut down these circuits due to the low voltage. It is a protection system that keeps the battery from being drained by unneeded components. It can also occur if the battery was jumped backwards as this can blow fuses or damage the modules in the vehicle. If the vehicle was jumped correctly then I usually remove the battery and fully charge it. After it is charged I reinstall it and everything should then come back online. If not then the module will need to be scanned for codes and to see if it is coming online as it should. If it is not then it may have been damaged. If you need to have this electrical problem inspected, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to [diagnose why these electrical systems are acting up] https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/electrical-components-are-not-working-inspection

I have no power at all to my factory radio. I’ve disconnected battery n waited got nothing all my fuses are good an still nothing
ANSWER : Hi there. It sounds like you may have blown radio fuse. After some research, I found that the radio fuse is most likely in the right side instrument panel fuse block. Locate and inspect the fuse with a digital volt/ohm meter. If you do not find supply voltage on both sides, then the fuse is likely blown; probably due to an unseen/noticed short during a repair. Replace the fuse and recheck for supply voltage on both sides of the fuse and at the radio connector. If the connector does not have voltage, then there is either an open circuit/broken wire or it may be installed incorrectly. If voltage is available, reseat the connector in the radio to make sure the connector is all the way in and providing a good connection; slightly tug at the wires to check for loose terminals and correct as necessary. I strongly suggest having a qualified technician perform an inspection to avoid any additional concerns from occurring or replacing unnecessary parts. Your Mechanic has several available technicians that can assist you with a radio does not work inspection.

No power past Starter Solenoid
ANSWER : Hey there. That is a tough one. If your not getting power past the solenoid, the only thing I would consider is that the ground connection from the starter is faulty or the wire itself is frayed. On an older Dodge like your W100, I would suspect electrical wires and connections as being the trouble spots. Check all connections and replace the ground wires to be on the safe side to see if this resolves your issues.

Unmute radio, it does not have amute button on steering wheel
ANSWER : No sound can be caused by a couple of issues. The radio unit may be shorted internally. If it is internally amplified, the amplifier circuit may be shorted. The radio may still power up, have an active display and even change channels, but if the amplifier is shorted, you may not get any sound. Also, depending on the type of sound system, if it is externally amplified – separate amplifier in the trunk, etc – that can also cause a no sound condition while the radio itself seems to operate normally.

A local electronics store that does things like stereo installations, repairs, etc, may be able to narrow down the cause for you. Also, one of our technicians may be able to isolate what is causing the lack of volume from the radio
