How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

If your RPM starts fluctuating, there might be issues with the engine`s combustion process, a communication gap between the IAC and the ECU, or it can be a worn-out spark plug.
Start by connecting your scanner to the OBDII port and turning on the engine, but not the ignition. Next, navigate to the “TP Position” option on the scanner`s menu and select “Reset.” Once you`ve chosen the reset option, turn the ignition off and then back on again. The TPS should now function correctly.
Common signs include lacking power when accelerating, rough or slow idle, stalling, inability to shift up, and the Check Engine Light coming on.
Replace the sensor with a compatible one and correctly install the crankshaft position sensor to ensure that the engine runs optimally and safely. A qualified technician can prevent further issues with RPM fluctuations while driving by installing the sensor correctly.
Engine hunting and surging at idle is usually caused by a fuel delivery, air leak, or governor system problem. Cleaning/overhauling the carburettor, adjustment of the governor, and/or changing the air filer may be required.
The throttle position sensor (also known as the TPS sensor or Throttle Valve Position sensor) is a part of the electronic throttle control system and is connected to the throttle body and monitors your vehicle`s throttle angle.
Within a motorsport engine – or the engine of any vehicle, there is a throttle valve. The throttle valve opens when the accelerator pedal is compressed. A throttle position sensor is used to measure how open the throttle valve is and therefore controls the amount of air which can flow into the engines intake manifold.
The engine RPM drop when changing gears is often caused by a failed throttle position sensor (TPS). When in use, the cone of the TPS accumulates soot that prevents the correct rod movement. If a TPS works abnormally, the air-fuel mixture will not meet the requirements.
If the idle control system malfunctions, it may fail to regulate the engine`s idle speed properly, resulting in higher RPMs. This can be caused by a faulty idle air control valve (IACV), a malfunctioning throttle body, or a problem with the engine control unit (ECU) that controls the idle speed.

The Idle Air Control Valve is a critical component of your car`s engine. Its primary function is to control the airflow into the engine when the throttle is closed. If the IAC valve becomes dirty or faulty, it can cause the engine to idle erratically, resulting in fluctuating RPM.

How much would it cost me to get the whole electronic throttle control system fixed?
ANSWER : Hi there. Although this is not a service our mobile mechanics can offer, replacing the electrical harnesses that impact the operation of the throttle body and electronic throttle control on your 2008 Jeep is a pretty delicate process and can be rather pricey. A local Jeep specialist would be better suited to provide you with an accurate estimate. I would recommend first trying to diagnose why the ETC light is always illuminated. There could be a vacuum leak somewhere. In addition, a relearn procedure must be performed after replace the ETC actuator. It’s possible that if the actuator was replaced, this step was missed. The the ECU reprogram would be completed by an authorized Jeep repair center or dealership, they are most likely your best option here. Best of luck to you.

Id like to purchase a car but i want to know how much it would cost to get the timing belt fixed on the vehicle.
ANSWER : Hello. Unfortunately if the timing belt brakes it is not usually as simple as just installing a new one on this vehicle. Most of the time when the timing belt brakes on this engine the pistons will contact the valves bending them. This would require that the cylinder heads be removed and the head rebuilt so this would be quite an expense. It really then depends on how cheap you are getting the vehicle for.

I wanted to know about how much it would cost to fix the heater in a 2000 dodge stratus/SE and to fix the windows that wont roll u
ANSWER : Inasmuch as used car repair, maintenance, and restoration costs are highly dependent on the actual, as found, condition of the vehicle, the only way to get a reasonably precise estimate of repair costs you might face, and also to protect yourself in the transaction, is to request a pre-purchase vehicle inspection. That inspection, carried out by a certified Mechanic, dispatched to your location, will give you the exact data that you need to make a fully informed, intelligent decision and minimize your risk in buying a used car. If you look at the just cited link for YourMechanic’s inspection service, you will see a long, long list of the vehicle systems that must be inspected as well as details of YourMechanic’s inspection methodology.

With regard to the two faults that have already been revealed to you, namely the non functioning cabin heater and the non functioning window, the heater repair could cost anywhere in the range of $70 (stuck heater control valve; no part replacement) on up to the hundreds of dollars if the heater core in the dash is plugged and has to be removed and replaced. On the window motor circuit, fuses are circuit protection devices and thus do NOT fail for no reason. If a fuse failed, there is a short circuit or other electrical fault in the circuit that will have to be diagnosed and resolved. There again, you can assume anywhere from $70 (if merely a wire is found shorted to ground) on up in the case where you need a new power window motor and/or regulator. If you want a quick and dirty "guess" as to what you should request as a "discount" on account of just the two problems in a case where you have no diagnosis in hand (i.e., no accurate understanding of the extent of the required repairs), you should request at least $500 off the car price to protect yourself. But, getting back to my remarks at the outset, really the ENTIRE vehicle should be thoroughly inspected and you should obtain a complete inspection report from an objective outside third party. I would not rely of the self report of the owner, unless you know the owner personally. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Check engine light is on for the catalytic converter , I fixed one about a year ago. Is there a part needed, Frontback? Which part
ANSWER : Since your vehicle has a V shaped engine, it will likely have two catalytic converters. Since the engine is mounted transversly in the vehicle (because it is front wheel drive) there will be one converter on the front and one on the rear. If you had one replaced, it is likely the issue is coming from the opposite converter. I would recommend having your exhaust system inspected by a qualified professional who has experience in exhaust system diagnosis and repair.

voltage warning light still coming on 30-45 seconds after car starts.
ANSWER : Nothing should be replaced until you have in hand a definitive diagnostic pinpointing the faulty segment of the car’s electrical system. There may be too much voltage drop in the charging circuit, as well as elsewhere, but start with the charging circuit. The faulty segment could be anywhere, so using the factory wiring diagram you just have to methodically and systematically test the entire charging circuit until the fault is found. It’s laborious but compared to replacing parts that might be perfectly good, properly diagnosing the fault will save you money and time in the end. As far as the engine warning light, at the moment I would fix the issue with the charging system first because that may resolve the check engine light. If it doesn’t, just request a check engine light diagnostic. If you want the charging circuit diagnostic steps performed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a charging circuit diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

The throttle keeps sticking at average speeds
ANSWER : You may have a damaged throttle body or a faulty throttle position sensor. Both of these issues can make you feel the same symptoms as a sticking throttle. I would recommend having the throttle body and throttle position sensor inspected by a qualified professional. This test will include a visual inspection of the throttle body as well as testing the TPS for proper function using the manufacturers recommended procedure. Once the faulty part has been determined, replace it as necessary to resolve your issue.
