My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. Check the wheel bearing to see if the wheel speed sensor was plugged in. Those indicator lights will come on when the sensor is left unplugged. As for the engine having a misfire, check the spark plugs and the wires. Check the fuel system and make sure that there is fuel to the rail. Check the mass air flow sensor (MAF) and see if the wires were disconnect or if there is a loose connection. If you need further assistance with your abs light being on or the misfire, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

As the wheel speed sensor is located very close to the braking system, the high heat generated by the brakes cause the wheel speed sensor to be more susceptible to damage. This in turn makes it one of the more common causes of the ABS light coming on.
Four Reasons Your Anti-lock Brake System Light Can Come On

The four common reasons that typically cause this light to turn on include a malfunctioning ABS module, low levels in the fluid reservoir, broken wheel speed sensors, or the system is turned off.

Resetting Your ABS Dashboard Warning Light

Step One: Disconnect the positive cable from your car battery. Then, hold down the brake pedal to drain the vehicle`s electrical system. This will result in a reset of the car`s central computer. Plug the cable back in to restore power.

One or more dirty wheel sensors (all cars with anti-lock brakes have at least one) can cause the system to trigger the ABS light during the computer`s self-evaluation cycle.
When your car`s ABS light comes on, it means there is a problem with your vehicle`s braking system. You need to address this issue; otherwise, it could make your car unsafe to drive. ABS is a type of braking system used in all cars produced since Sept. 1, 2011.
If the light remains on, you need have our service department check it out immediately. Since the ABS helps with vehicle control and stopping distances, it is an important safety feature to maintain. If both the ABS and the brake system light come on at the same time, your vehicle is no longer safe to drive.
The average cost for a Chevrolet Malibu ABS Control Module Replacement is between $683 and $731. Labor costs are estimated between $185 and $233 while parts are priced between $498 and $498.
Does A Faulty ABS Module Drain My Battery? An ABS module failure can cause the ABS pump to run continuously. This can eventually drain out your vehicle battery. To prevent a flat battery or burning out the ABS pump, have your mechanic remove the ABS fuse.

On most vehicles the ABS system does a self-test every time you turn on the car. Once you start your vehicle, the light will briefly come on, and if the computer finds a problem, the light will stay on. If you notice the light flash immediately after starting the vehicle, then it`s just a self-check.
The Brake System Warning Light indicates a potential issue with the brakes in your Chevy Malibu. Best described as an encircled exclamation mark bordered by two parentheses next to the word “BRAKE”, this dashboard light appears if one or both of your car`s hydraulic braking circuits aren`t working properly.

Abs light, emergency brake light, steering wheel assist light, engine light, EPC light, traction control light
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The vehicle does utilize a lot of the same sensors for these systems. Are there any other codes that are coming up when this code appears? If so you will want to take these into consideration when processing the repair and making a diagnosis. The module may be bad, and replacing it should fix the problem. The lights should turn off once the main computer recognizes the new module and the sensors sync up. If you believe the sensors need to be cleaned you may do so. Do as minimal as possible to make sure you are not damaging the sensor or disrupting the wiring inside. A bad connection would make the lights stay on. With so many lights that are effected by the module being illuminated, the module is likely bad or does not have a connection. Check the connection first and then resort to replacing the unit. 2012 equinox reduced power light engine light and traction light came on. Lost a lot of power got home and all light except engine
ANSWER : Your car has what is called a "safe mode" that will be engaged by the computer when it detects that something critical has gone wrong related to any of the major components in your engine chassis or power train. This may be related to a number of things, most of which should have been registered in the computer when the check engine light came on. I recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to inspect your check engine light and diagnose any codes registered by your vehicle’s computer.

Battery light goes on when I start car then turns off, if I rev engine light comes back until rpms go down. Abs goes comes on/off
ANSWER : Batteries can die due to faults in the charging system so ideally a suspected "faulty" battery should be load tested before a decision is made to condemn it. The only exception to this rule is if the battery is already clearly "old" (greater than 5 years) but even then once you put a new battery in, as a replacement for a "dead" battery, you have to comprehensively check out the charging system. Diagnostic Trouble Code P0460 will result in disruption of the dashboard fuel gauge’s ability to accurately report your tank’s fuel levels. The fuel gauge readings may be erratic, or read somewhere off scale. Vehicles equipped with a low fuel warning light feature may also suffer from erratic low fuel warnings in the event of a code P0460. Unless the P0460 code has been reported alongside other trouble code, all of the vehicle’s essential systems should otherwise function normally. I would recommend that you request a check engine light diagnostic to first resolve the fault causing the P0460 code to set. The check gas cap light warning light could be due a faulty gas cap and/or small leaks in the EVAP system.

My steering wheel locked up or got stiff and the battery light came on and oil light came on but battery is fine and oil is there
ANSWER : Depending on whether your truck came with electric power steering or hydraulic power steering, this could have been caused by failing power steering whether it be hydraulic or electric. To provide steering assistance in an electronic power steering system, an electric motor mounted to the side of the rack housing drives a ball-screw mechanism via a toothed rubber belt. The screw engages a spiral cut in the outside of the steering rack. A torque sensor attached to the pinion shaft signals a control computer when to provide assistance. There are a number of things that can fail with the electronics involved in this kind of a system.

In a hydraulic power steering system, the power steering system is driven by a belt on a pulley that is driven by the motor. Your car has a power steering pressure switch that sends a signal to the engine computer when the steering wheel is turned. In response, the engine computer commands the fuel injectors to introduce a little more fuel into the motor to help to compensate for the additional load that the power steering pump places on the motor. If something in this circuit is not working properly, the engine will not be compensated with more fuel as needed when the extra load on the engine is applied, and the engine will stumble, or stall. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

ABS light on, ESP light on,Traction OFF light on, engine light on, rides perfectly OBDI reads only Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor
ANSWER : If a faulty component is still in place, the fault codes will return almost immediately after clearing them. ABS, ESP, and traction control systems all rely on input from wheel speed sensors to determine as the name implies, the speed of each wheel. When a wheel, or wheels are spinning faster than others due to wheel slip or the vehicle is sliding, the ABS and ESP systems can reduce throttle input as well as apply braking to an individual wheel or all of them if needed. With a wheel speed sensor fault code stored, these systems cannot determine the rate that all 4 wheels are spinning and sets a fault. That is why the abs/esp light is on. The system should be scanned by a certified technician and the wheel speed sensor replaced if found to be the cause. The warning lights will stay on and these systems will not function as designed until the fault is corrected. These lights do not come on to indicate a need for routine service. Rather they only come on when a component in the system is at fault.

I hear an abnormal noise from front driver’s side wheel. It sounds like a wheel bearing but not sure.
ANSWER : A wheel bearing noise can be different between vehicles as some designs may vary a little. The most common is a roaring noise that may change when going around turns. It may be louder going in one direction or the other or just make a loud noise all of the time. The wheel hub presses into the wheel bearing. The hub is where the studs are for the wheel to be bolted onto the steering knuckle and the bearing provides the support for the wheel and weight of the vehicle. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out and take a closer look at your wheel bearing noise to offer a more personal diagnosis.
