Most of the windows don’t work

The both of the passenger's side windows and the driver's side rear window do not work. The windows are stuck down on the passenger's side.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. Since the driver’s window works and the others don’t, the problem is most likely the master switch. Both power and ground are routed through this switch to the individual window motors. The switch also contains the window lockout switch, otherwise known as the child safety switch. A trained professional can remove the master switch and inspect it’s operation with a digital multimeter.

The most common reasons a Mercury Grand Marquis window won`t go up or down are window`s electrical system such as a fuse or relay, a broken window motor, or a broken window regulator. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue.
There are a multitude of reasons why your car window might not roll up, including: The fuses are blown, preventing the electrical controls handling the window from working. The child safety lock is engaged by accident. The window switch is functioning correctly, but the window motor has malfunctioned.
Common signs include having to press multiple times to roll the window up or down, slower or faster window speed, and clicking sounds from the door.
Look at the fuse wire. If there is a visible gap in the wire or a dark or metallic smear inside the glass then the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced.
Check the fuse

With some arrangements a single fuse in the main supply line is used to protect the complete window system so a failure here affects all the windows. Other cars have individual fuses for each window motor so failure will only affect the one window.

If all of the windows quit working at once, meaning there is no response when you push the power window switch, chances are there is a loss of power in the electrical system. Normally, a bad relay or blown fuse is the cause of this problem. The drivers master switch may also be the cause.
A shop will charge you at least a few hundred dollars to replace the motor/regulator, but you can do a window regulator repair and power window repair yourself in about four hours. Regulators are available online or at auto parts stores.
The AC fuse on most HVAC systems is typically on the unit`s control board. You`ll normally find the board behind an access panel on the unit`s lower compartment. While you sometimes have to unscrew areas to access the control board, others have clips.
If the motor makes noise when the switch is pressed but the window fails to move, it is likely a mechanical problem with the window regulator mechanism (broken or loose cable, stripped gears, etc.). Replacing a power window regulator or motor is not exactly a piece of cake.
One of the most common reasons power windows fail is a broken motor. Fortunately, when this is the case it is very easy to tell because if you press then button to move the window up or down and nothing happens, the motor is not working as it should.
Fogging, hazing, or moisture between the two panes of glass usually means that the window seal has failed. While a window can certainly fail and not have any moisture between the two panes, it is more common to see moisture between the two panes.
A watt meter – also known as a power meter – is one of the best and simplest ways to measure how much energy your PC and its peripherals are consuming in real-time. All you need to do is plug the watt meter into a wall socket, plug your PC – or a power strip with all of your devices – directly into it, and voila!
When a power window won`t go up or down, the issue could be with the window motor. Without starting the car, turn the ignition to the accessory position. Engage the switch for the affected window and see if the voltmeter (if your vehicle has one) in the instrument panel moves even a slight amount.
One of the most common causes for the reset error is corrupted system files. If key files in your Windows 10 system are damaged or deleted, they can prevent the operation from resetting your PC. Running the System File Checker (SFC scan) will allow you to repair these files and attempt to reset them again.
The window regulator is the mechanical assembly that moves a window up and down when power is supplied to an electric motor or, with manual windows, the window crank is turned. Window regulators are mounted inside the door panel, out of sight and out of mind until they don`t work.
A window actuator is a type of motor for moving or controlling a mechanism or system. It is operated by a source of energy, usually an electric current, hydraulic fluid pressure, or pneumatic pressure. Stairwell ventilation can be achieved by automatically opening a window within the stairwell.
Grip the window between your palms and slide it up.

Pressing the glass firmly between your palms, slowly move your hands up to raise the window. If there`s not much of the window sticking up, try to pull it up a little with your fingers so you can get your palms on it.

WHAT IS A WINDOW REGULATOR? Each door window has its own regulator. Its role is to move the window up and down on its track, allowing it to open and close. There are two types of window regulators commonly used: a scissor-type regulator and a cable-operated regulator.
There is no separate fuse or relay for each of the power windows. They are all powered by the one circuit breaker and relay.
Glass fuses provide overcurrent protection for low-current circuits in appliances, electronics circuit boards, and lighting fixtures. They typically have a voltage rating of 300VAC or less and are used for applications where they won`t be exposed to high heat that could shatter the glass.
If your window air conditioner won`t turn on, it may be that the fuse has blown. First verify that you are getting power to the unit and then unplug the unit and remove the cover. Locate the circuit board and check for a removable fuse. If one is found, look for signs that it has blown or use a multi-meter to check it.
How to Reset a Window Air Conditioner. Since most window air conditioners do not have a reset button, you`ll need to unplug it for a few minutes to dissipate the charge. After plugging it back in and turning the circuit back on, the window AC unit should reset and be operational again.
The two most common failure mechanisms of relays are contamination and mechanical wear of the internal switching elements discussed as follows: a. Contamination is a major cause of early life failures.

My RPassenger window did not work. I had it fixed. shortly after neither of my rear windows will work from the or the front and
ANSWER : Hi there. Usually when both window switches do not work it is due to an electrical fault with the primary control module. There is a center module that relays all electricity from switches to individual window drive motors to open and close. When more than one switch doesn’t appear to be working, it typically due to an issue with that center window control module or electrical relay powering the system. It would be a good idea to have a professional mechanic come to your location and complete a window not working inspection to determine precisely what is causing this issue before attempting any further repairs.

Why do my power windows not work? 2005 Buick Century
ANSWER : Hello. There are several things that can cause this. It can be caused by a bad ground connection or an issue with the circuit breaker that supplies power to this circuit. You would need to used a voltage meter to check the supply voltage. If there is voltage to the switch then the ground need to be checked. If the ground is also fine then you may have a wiring issue or a bad motor at each window which can occur over time. My dash board don’t work my front light work when I change my light into high beam and my back window won’t go down
ANSWER : As unfortunate as it is, your vehicle would be considered flood damaged. Diagnosing electrical problems in a flood damaged vehicle is nearly impossible. This would take many hours or even days to determine which wiring harnesses and circuits have been affected. Then nearly all of the wiring under the dash would likely require replacement as well as many sensors and switches. On a BMW vehicle, the amount of wires and switches are likely more than that of a lower end vehicle. Due to the inefficiency in cost, you would likely be able to purchase another BMW like yours for less than what it would cost to fix your car. Many insurance companies would consider this type of damage to total out the vehicle unfortuantely.

Driver’s side windows do not properly function
ANSWER : If removing the driver door window switch (or the driver-side console switch), and applying direct power to the harness yields successful operation of the window, the problem is the switch that was removed for the test. This can be confirmed utilizing a voltmeter/multimeter, and following the "power path" from the fuse, to the switch, to the output side of the switch (harness plug side of the switch), etc. A YourMechanic technician can assist with the diagnosis of your window issue and help you fix it accordingly.

Just replaced head gasket, changed crack sensor new plugs. The check engine light is on, but dim, the only other light that the dash is a normal battery indicator. The fuel pump is not running when switch is turned on, the power windows don’t work, it turns over but not firing. It’s like only one part of the system is working. Also the heater fans work even if the switch is off.
ANSWER : I would first look at the diagnostic trouble codes. Those codes are available because the check engine light is on. If the fuel pump is not running (momentarily) at key on, that fault alone will prevent the car from starting as there will be no fuel pressure. Pump output and pressure can be directly tested and you can also check for electrical power to the pump. To find out why the engine will not run, the recommended diagnostic is a no start diagnostic. Left rear passenger door Window and Lock do not work at all.
ANSWER : The window motors are a common failure. Sometimes the cable in the regulator can come off track and wrap around the gear on the motor and do some damage. As far as the door lock you may have an actuator failing. Many of the door locks on VWs and Audis were air powered, but your concerns sounds like it’s electrical. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out and take a closer look and your electrical concerns and offer a more personal diagnosis.

Used a quick fix for my broken power window: hold switch up and slam door. What might need replacing if it worked for me?
ANSWER : Hi there. In most cases, the quick fix that you learned online will lead you to knowing what component was damaged. In this case, if you press a window switch and slam the door, it will shake or rattle the connections to the switch and "magically" roll the window up. As such, the problem is most likely either the individual motor on that window or the switch relay to that window. It’s probably a better idea to have one of our mobile mechanics come to your location and complete a window does not work inspection, so they can inspect your car and determine exactly what needs to be repaired.

Windshield wipers stopped working. They’ll suddenly stop working then suddenly start working again. Has been happening for a week.
ANSWER : The problem you are describing likely stems from an intermittent electrical fault in the wiper circuit. The windshield wiper system uses a small electric motor to move the wiper arms that you see on the windshield. That electric motor is controlled through a switch, relay, fuse, and wiring. One, or more, of those electrical components has failed although it is also possible that the mechanical arms are binding (seized, if the lubricant has dried out) thus causing the electric circuit to the motor to overload. Regardless of the underlying fault, if you request a non functioning wiper diagnostic/repair, the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you.
