How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

As you stand in the front of the car, have the assistant turn the headlights off. Next, put the dark cloth or cardboard over one headlight, and have the assistant turn the headlights on. Find the adjusting screw and turn the screws slowly clockwise to raise the height of the lights or counterclockwise to lower them.
Changing headlight bulbs in pairs assures that the road ahead will be properly illuminated and that drivers will get the full safety benefit of the vehicle`s headlights, just as the carmaker intended. Replacing parts in pairs can ensure vehicles are properly balanced and functioning safely.
The likely cause is a fuse, headlight relay, headlight switch, dimmer switch or a wiring fault. About the only cause that is an easy fix is a blown fuse. Consult your owner`s manual to locate the main fuse for the headlight circuit and replace that fuse with one having the same amp rating.
One bulb functions as the low beam or dipped beam headlight, and the other can be turned on to create the brighter high beams or main beams. Many vehicles use single filament bulbs.
The top of the low beam shining on the wall should be at or slightly below the height of the center of the headlight lens for most vehicles. You should expect the light pattern to be higher on the right side (passenger side) to illuminate road signs and lower on the driver`s side to prevent blinding other drivers.
Yes, you can! Luckily, headlight bulb replacement is usually a quick and inexpensive fix, as long as you know a few important tips. Check out the video below to get started. If you still have questions, your local auto parts store is a great resource for finding the right bulb.

I can’t roll the rear passenger window up from either the drivers side or the passenger side. Could it be the regulator rather than the switches?
ANSWER : Hi there. If you are hearing a clicking sound as the window is trying to roll up or down, then either the regulator motor is burned and needs replaced or the track that the window rides on is broken. If you need further assistance with your passenger window motor not working, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.

I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.

I changed the lightbulbs on my cars headlights but the driver side headlight won’t turn on…
ANSWER : Hello. Ironically, I happen to have a 2000 CLK 430 as well and I experienced an almost identical scenario as you did. I had a fog light out on my vehicle, thinking it was a bulb I went ahead and replaced the light bulb but once I replaced it it still did not fix the issue. Upon further inspection of my vehicle I found that the some of the insulation around the wiring leading to the fog light was brittle and causing wires to be exposed. I taped the wires with some electrical tape because Mercedes-Benz has a very sensitive electrical system and if a wire is exposed it will cause resistance. If the electrical system senses too much resistance it will cut power off to that component to help protect other electrical parts. I suggest to have a technician such as one from YourMechanic inspect the wiring of your fog light that is out, check the fog light fuse in the side fuse compartment, and also check the clearance light bulb. The clearance light bulb is a small bulb located under the fog light and is integrated into the fog light circuit. If the clearance light is out it will interrupt the fog lights power. On my vehicle it was a clearance light being out and the damaged wiring to the fog light causing my fog light to be inoperative. Low beam headlight not working on passenger’s side
ANSWER : Hello. Most of the time this occurs when there is a connection issue at the fuse box or there is a wiring issue. I would typically follow the wiring back to the fuse box to test it there. If there is battery voltage at the fuse but none leaving the fuse box then the box itself is bad. If you are going to get the car repaired, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come and inspect your headlight to determine what needs to be repaired.

Power mirror on passenger side will not retain it’s setting driver side works perfect.
ANSWER : A technician with an advanced scan tool can verify the issue. The mirror system is complex and involves many modules. The Body Control Module is a possible cause, but it’s doubtful; replacement requires reprogramming, which requires special equipment. I would check the driver’s and passenger’s door modules; toggle or move the switch on the driver’s side to see if it causes the problem, and ensure that the mirror glass itself is not loose on the passenger’s side mirror assembly.

Without diagnosing the problem with advanced equipment, the issue is hard to diagnose. A qualified YourMechanic technician can show up to the location of your vehicle with a scan tool to inspect and diagnose your power mirror issue.

I own a Cadillac 2012 SRX whose driver-side headlight is dimmer than the passenger side.
ANSWER : Hi there. With having one headlight dimmer than the other and having the light bulb replaced with a new bulb and still having the same result, then I recommend replacing the ballast resister for the headlight that is dimmer. This is similar to having a light going out in a house, when the ballast resister becomes ineffective, then the light naturally dims out as the current drops. If you need further assistance with your headlight being dimmer than the other, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

My window on my passenger side won’t roll down and the lock button doesn’t lock the doors.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Your issue is most likely a switch. The window motor would not effect the door lock functions. The only true way to know is to test the power available to the switch and see if it is passing through, or making it to the motor. Where the power stops and is not utilized, is the component that has failed. If the power supply is not making it to the switch, then you have another wiring or fuse issue. Without doing some electrical testing, you may want to start with replacing the switch. For more help with diagnosis and resolving the issue, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.
