Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the cap off. Insert the flathead screwdriver into the area where the cap was. Press down to release the gearshift. With your foot on the brake, shift the car into neutral.
A stuck shifter can be resolved most of the time by simply jiggling it back and forth until the gears shift again.
It doesn`t matter if it`s a manual or automatic transmission … if the transmission is in neutral (or even park for an auto), the vehicle isn`t going to move via power output of the engine (it can roll if gravity has it`s way, no doubt). There`s no way for the power to get to the wheels.
Most often mounted to the left-hand side of the transmission, the switch is equipped in vehicles with a transaxle or automatic transmission.
The Shift Lock Release is a safety function that enables you to move your car when you can`t shift the fear from one setting to another. With that said, here are the easy steps in using shift lock release: Make sure that the emergency brake is set. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
To put a car in neutral without starting it and without the key, you need to get underneath the vehicle and move the gear selector to neutral. Or, if you have the key, you can put the car in neutral by releasing the shift lock and shifting gears as normal.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Locate the shift lock override slot in the shifter. Press and hold the shift lock release button for five seconds. Use a flat-head screwdriver to press and hold it.

2000 escalade will not lock with the key in the ignition, it only chimes and doesn’t engage lock.
ANSWER : Hi there. If the driver door is not locking with the door ajar and the key in the ignition, that is normal. If all of the doors are not engaging the locks with the key in the ignition and the engine off, that also is normal. If the engine is running and the transmission is in park, then the doors should lock and unlock, but auto lock when putting the vehicle in drive (if your vehicle has that function). Try this:

Remove the key from the ignition
Take the battery cable off the battery and put it back on
Take the key and put it into the driver door
Turn the key once to unlock the driver door
Turn the key again and the other doors should lock
Unlock the driver door and open the door
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to ’ON’
Hold down on the lock button to lock all of the doors and turn off the key
Turn on the key to the ’ON’ position and release the door lock button
Hold down on the unlock button to unlock all of the doors and turn of the key
Turn on the key to the ’ON’ position and release the door unlock button

This should program the computer system to unlock and lock the doors by the door lock switches. Having problems with door locks on 08 Cadillac CTS. Driver side door especially and will not lock or unlock with key. Others loc
ANSWER : This is often related to a malfunctioning door lock actuator, a blown fuse or a faulty power door lock switch. When you use the door lock switch in the car it sends a signal to a relay which then activates an actuator inside the door. The actuator is the final step in the process in that it is a small motor with a set of gears that actually locks and unlocks the latch mechanism inside the door allowing the door to open. When this motor is bad, the latch mechanism will fail to operate and cause the door not to unlock as it is designed to. In the case of a bad door lock relay, the power, normally needed to send the signal from the switch when you activate it to the actuator motor is not there. This means the relay is not allowing the circuit to be completed and the actuator motor is not activated. Any of the above may cause your power door lock switches not to work properly and should be diagnosed by a qualified mechanic. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at the door locks in your vehicle.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.

I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.
