Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. Unfortunately if the timing belt brakes it is not usually as simple as just installing a new one on this vehicle. Most of the time when the timing belt brakes on this engine the pistons will contact the valves bending them. This would require that the cylinder heads be removed and the head rebuilt so this would be quite an expense. It really then depends on how cheap you are getting the vehicle for.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

The average cost for a Hyundai Tiburon Timing Belt Replacement is between $616 and $837. Labor costs are estimated between $241 and $305 while parts are priced between $374 and $533.
Because it performs the crucial task of synchronizing the rotations of the camshafts and crankshafts in the engine, a Hyundai Tiburon timing belt that wears down or breaks spells disaster for the operation of the entire vehicle.
The most common reasons a Hyundai Tiburon won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
In most cases, a timing belt kit will run between $100 -350. Labor on most timing belts is between 3-5 hours, putting your total cost between $400 -1,000. Remember, do not opt for a “just the belt” replacement. While the cost is cheaper, the chances of further failure increase significantly.
The average cost for a Hyundai Elantra Timing Belt Replacement is between $538 and $695. Labor costs are estimated between $238 and $300 while parts are priced between $301 and $395.
Timing belt replacements:

For most Hyundai vehicles replacement should happen at 60,000 mile intervals. Check your owner`s manual for manufacturer recommendation to be sure.

Some automakers recommend changing a timing belt between 60,000 and 100,000, others don`t. Many of today`s timing belts can go 100,000 miles or more without needing to be replaced. In fact, not all cars use a rubber timing belt.
If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
It is safer to replace the timing belt even earlier than the manufacturer recommends. In general, however, timing belts needs to be replaced from 60,000 miles up to 150,000 miles.
Replacement of your timing belt can vary from 60,0000km to 100,000km, even up to 150,000km depending on the make and model of your vehicle. Symptoms of a timing belt needing inspection or immediate replacement.
The time and labor are what make it so expensive. To get to the timing belt, the engine needs to be disassembled. Doing so takes significant time and effort. In addition, replacing the timing belt involves setting the timing and putting the engine back together.
If the belt breaks while you are on the road, the car will break down immediately – and your engine can experience severe damage. You need to look out for signs and symptoms of a weakening timing belt so that you can take action before it is too late.
Hyundai has decided to conduct a safety recall in the United States to inspect, and if necessary, replace the engine in: Model Year 2013 and 2014 Hyundai Sonata vehicles equipped with 2.0 liter and 2.4 liter gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines manufactured at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama.
Recall Summary

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Elantra, 2019-2021 Kona and Veloster vehicles equipped with 2.0L Nu MPI engines. The piston oil rings may not have been properly heat-treated, which could result in engine damage.

Cambelts or timing belts usually need to be replaced, usually between 40,000 and 100,000 miles. Alternatively, for lower mileage cars, the belt is advised to be replaced around four or five years.
Should I replace the water pump with the timing belt? It is not necessary to replace both at the same time, however, it is highly recommended due to a high risk of engine damage. All parts of the synchronous drive have the same mileage and wear.
A timing belt should be routinely changed, just like the engine filter or other similar car parts. Now that technology has improved, timing belts don`t need to be changed as often as in previous decades, but you should still book an appointment to replace the belt between 60,000 and 100,000 miles.
Broken or Damaged Ignition

If your headlights can turn on, but your car won`t crank, that means that your battery is charged, but either the starter or ignition is the problem. If the starter or ignition is the problem, a starter engine can be jumped by using a charged battery.

If you do have a blown engine, whether or not it can be fixed depends upon the extensiveness of the damage. If the damage is minimal, and a few parts can be replaced, the problem can be fixed. However, if the damage is great and impossible to repair, you may need a complete engine replacement.
Timing belts are a serviceable item and should be changed as per the manufacturers` service schedule, this is usually between 60,000 and 100,000 miles or 5 – 7 years.
Timing belt replacement varies from car to car. It can vary from 50,000 to 70,000 miles. Some cars, it may be a higher mileage. But, 300,000 miles, does not seem possible at all.
A good general rule of thumb is that a timing belt should be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, although some timing belts are designed to last up to 120,000 miles before requiring a change.
No timing belt will give an increase in performance – it`s just not possible. Its main job is to keep the timing in check. Having your timing belt replaced and noticing an increase in performance is just a mix of the engine operating at peak efficiency and a good hit of placebo effect thrown in for good measure!

How much would it cost me to get the whole electronic throttle control system fixed?
ANSWER : Hi there. Although this is not a service our mobile mechanics can offer, replacing the electrical harnesses that impact the operation of the throttle body and electronic throttle control on your 2008 Jeep is a pretty delicate process and can be rather pricey. A local Jeep specialist would be better suited to provide you with an accurate estimate. I would recommend first trying to diagnose why the ETC light is always illuminated. There could be a vacuum leak somewhere. In addition, a relearn procedure must be performed after replace the ETC actuator. It’s possible that if the actuator was replaced, this step was missed. The the ECU reprogram would be completed by an authorized Jeep repair center or dealership, they are most likely your best option here. Best of luck to you.

I wanted to know about how much it would cost to fix the heater in a 2000 dodge stratus/SE and to fix the windows that wont roll u
ANSWER : Inasmuch as used car repair, maintenance, and restoration costs are highly dependent on the actual, as found, condition of the vehicle, the only way to get a reasonably precise estimate of repair costs you might face, and also to protect yourself in the transaction, is to request a pre-purchase vehicle inspection. That inspection, carried out by a certified Mechanic, dispatched to your location, will give you the exact data that you need to make a fully informed, intelligent decision and minimize your risk in buying a used car. If you look at the just cited link for YourMechanic’s inspection service, you will see a long, long list of the vehicle systems that must be inspected as well as details of YourMechanic’s inspection methodology.

With regard to the two faults that have already been revealed to you, namely the non functioning cabin heater and the non functioning window, the heater repair could cost anywhere in the range of $70 (stuck heater control valve; no part replacement) on up to the hundreds of dollars if the heater core in the dash is plugged and has to be removed and replaced. On the window motor circuit, fuses are circuit protection devices and thus do NOT fail for no reason. If a fuse failed, there is a short circuit or other electrical fault in the circuit that will have to be diagnosed and resolved. There again, you can assume anywhere from $70 (if merely a wire is found shorted to ground) on up in the case where you need a new power window motor and/or regulator. If you want a quick and dirty "guess" as to what you should request as a "discount" on account of just the two problems in a case where you have no diagnosis in hand (i.e., no accurate understanding of the extent of the required repairs), you should request at least $500 off the car price to protect yourself. But, getting back to my remarks at the outset, really the ENTIRE vehicle should be thoroughly inspected and you should obtain a complete inspection report from an objective outside third party. I would not rely of the self report of the owner, unless you know the owner personally. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Serpentine belt tearing apart by pebble & pieces of it getting inside timing belt, motor destroyed
ANSWER : Hi there. I agree with you – this doesn’t pass the ’smell test’. The only way for debris to enter the engine is through the throttle body. Since the throttle body inlet is protected and covered by an air intake on your Ford Fiesta, I highly doubt that this is the source of your problems.

95 Bluebird. Fixed the drive belt and want to know, can I use a drive belt from another Nissan car until the new one gets here?

Replaced alternator on car 2 times each time shows it’s charging 14v let car run for a little bit then test drive and car voltage
ANSWER : There are reports that the replacement alternators will not communicate with the engine computer and will not charge correctly. I recommend using only the manufacturer approved replacement part. It can be new or remanufactured but approved for use in the vehicle. Some lower cost alternators on the aftermarket will have charging problems since they will not communicate with the ECM on the vehicle and will stop charging.
