I have a Mozda that will cut out completly when i put it in Park.

When i start the car and its cold it has no problem idling where it needs to be. When it starts to warm up the rpm will go all the way to down to about 260 to 500and fluctuate between the two. It will also do this when im stopped at an intersection. When i put the car in park it will go to 1000 rpm and quickly go to 100 and die.

My car has 174000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. From the description you have provided, your vehicle’s erratic idle, will need to be properly diagnosed. Assuming, the check engine light is not on, leads me to believe the vehicle’s computer is not recognizing the fault. It could be, a faulty or dirty (IAC) idle air control valve. It could be, a vacuum leak affecting the operation of the IAC valve. It could be, a mechanical issue affecting engine vacuum, ie; valve train issue. It could be, a wiring and/or poor connection issue. With all the possibilities, I recommend your vehicle’s engine has erratic idle and dies when put in park be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician from YourMechanic.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

i-stop is a smart technology that saves fuel by switching off the engine when the car stops. Idling stop systems save fuel by automatically shutting down the engine when the vehicle is static and restarting it when the vehicle returns to motion.
Wedge a piece of paper into the i-stop button, pressing it in permanently.
Why does my engine turn off after I open my door when using remote services? For safety and security, the vehicle was designed to shut-off automatically when a door is opened after being started remotely.
If the vehicle randomly shuts off while driving or stationary, there is usually an issue with the engine. Typical patterns here are issues with the ignition system, mixture preparation or fuel. A known error here is that the vehicle was refueled with the wrong type of fuel.
If the engine quits while you`re under way, the car will lose power steering and soon power brakes. But you can still guide and stop the car, even if it takes longer and requires much more effort.
Can Engine Start Stop be Turned Off Permanently? While it is not possible to permanently disable this feature, you are still able to disable it. With a normal vehicle, stop-start can be paused by pressing the “A Off” button next to your car`s gear shift.
A failing fuel pump is one of the faults that can cause this. Other likely problems would be the battery, alternator, battery cable, wiring harness fault, crank or camshaft position sensor. The fuel pump may have been replaced because it was not turning on.
If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
If the engine starts right back up after stalling, the likely cause is low fuel volume delivery because of a weak pump. If the engine is running normally one minute, but suddenly quits, loss of ignition may be the problem. This can be caused by anything that disrupts the ignition system.
Cars shouldn`t shut off while driving, but when they do, the most common culprits are: A bad crankshaft position sensor. Other sensor issues in the engine. A faulty fuel system.
Stop/Start Technology automatically stops and starts the vehicle`s engine under certain conditions. By turning off the engine when not needed, Stop/Start Technology can help improve fuel efficiency, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions (compared to the same vehicle with Stop/Start Technology not in use).

I pulled into a parking spot and put my car into park, when I lifted my foot from the brake the car continues forward.
ANSWER : The vehicle transmission did not get back to the park position due to the shift cable came off of the transmission shift linkage. You will need to have a mechanic like one from YourMechanic come to you and check the shift cable connection at the transmission to see if the shift cable bushing broke and let the cable end disengage from the shift linkage. The shift cable may need replaced if the cable end bushing is not available. I recommend a mechanic check the shift cable and replace cable or repair cable end as parts allow.

took my 2002 suburan to the chevy garage and I told them how I had to put it in park, then neutral ,then back to park to start the
ANSWER : Even from a distance, my gut tells me this issue is shifter-related. The shifter cable or mechanism can be worn or out of adjustment. It can be just enough that it does not sit in Park or Neutral just so. Then shifting back and forth moves it just enough that it starts. It may even be the Neutral-Safety Switch. The neutral safety switch is typically located on or near the shifter linkage on the transmission. It performs a few functions. It connects to the ignition to prevent the vehicle from being started in any gears other than park and neutral. It cal also signal the reverse lights when you shift to reverse. I would have the shifter mechanism looked at and if determined to be the case, replace the neutral safety switch.

Getting it into Park after driving & Getting it out of park to drive the car.
ANSWER : You should have the shift cable disconnected from the transmission to make sure the hard shift problem is in the shift cable or shifter assembly and not in the transmission. The most common cause is going to be in the shifter mechanism due to problems in the shifter. Have the shifter cable disconnected at both ends and check to make sure it moves free or it binds and shifter moves free. You may need to replace the shifter or shift cable and would need to be isolated to what one is cause.

my car got a new fuel pump in saturday and when i cranked my car it started put putting and immediately cut off… whats the prob?
ANSWER : Hello there, thank you for asking about your 2004 Kia Amanti. There are a couple of other things that can cause your symptoms. A failing engine speed sensor like a crankshaft position sensor can cause the vehicle to stall when it fails and can interrupt engine operation intermittently. If your sparks plugs are very worn out, the vehicle may idle smoothly or rough and stall when you try to accelerate. Avoid an unsafe driving situation. If you need help, a certified technician from YourMechanic can replace the crankshaft position sensor and spark plugs at your home or office.

When accelerating after a complete stop, turning corners, coming to a complete stop or randomly when Parked a very odd vibrating
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. The vehicle may be suffering from several different issues. In this type of situation you want to start with the least complicated option, and work your way up. Start by making sure your tires are properly inflated, and have them balanced. Your brakes may be playing a role, and you will want to start by cleaning them off with some brake cleaner, and make sure nothing is stuck between the pad and the rotor. You can then raise the vehicle and manipulate the wheel looking for excess play, damaged axles and joints, and damaged wheel bearings. From there you may need to look into the wheel assembly itself and make sure there is nothing mechanically wrong, dirty, or damaged. how can i bypass my sanji alarm it cuts my engine out completely if i put my ignition on and press the alarm button nothin goes on
ANSWER : When these aftermarket alarm systems start to not work there is no way to fix it. Unfortunately you will have to replace the entire system or remove it and convert back to the original wiring connection. Doing either of these things will fix your problem. If you’d like a second opinion on this, feel free to contact a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, who can come to you and diagnose your starting issue firsthand. Good luck.

I have a 2012 ford fusion sel that says park brakes engaged. But I never lifted the park brakes
ANSWER : Hi there. Is the parking brake engaged? Does the vehicle move freely if the parking brake is disengaged? If the vehicle moves freely with the parking brake off and the warning continues then it sounds like there could be a fault in the parking brake switch circuit. This could be a fault with the switch itself, internally or physically, or a wire harness concern. Short of acquiring a digital volt ohm meter (digital meter) and disassembling your console where the parking brake handle is located, an appropriate scan tool may show you data for the switch to see if it is sending an on/off signal and may assist with diagnosis. The switch either provides a ground when engaged or no ground when not engaged; engaged will turn on the parking brake warning. I suggest having a qualified technician perform an inspection to avoid replacing unnecessary parts.
