Hello. The symptoms you are experiencing can be caused by a few different things. If the screen is still displaying information, then the first thing I would do is check to make sure that the screen settings are not set to time out after a specific period of time, for energy saving purposes. You should be able to find these settings by navigating through the menus, to the display settings. If the settings are fine, then it may be possible that there is an issue with the screen itself, the module that controls it, or perhaps in the associated wiring to these components. As it appears that there may be electrical issues, which can sometimes be difficult to diagnose, I would recommend having a professional technician, such as one from Yourmechanic, visit your location to diagnose what may be causing your display issues.

Sat Nav/Audio Screen does not come on
ANSWER : Unfortunately, when something like this happens, there is not easy fix. It would be ideal if there were a fuse or something in the back of the radio that could be replaced to resolve this. However, when this happens the typical stragegy for resolving this issue is to replace the entire radio head unit. All of the electronics that control the screen are typically internal to the unit and cannot be replaced without getting an entire new radio. I know this is not great news but it is typically the only solution to this issue.

Does a 64 belair v6 230cl engine have a pushrod inside to activate the fuel pump? Dont see it in mine only see the cam really clos
ANSWER : Hi there. Although most mechanical fuel pumps work off a push rod driven system, not all of them do. There are two different systems, one that is push rod driven (which typically has a short activation rod where the push rod connects) and a cam lobe driven system (this will have a longer activation rod). If the mechanical pump you take out has a longer rod than normal, you have the cam driven type; which is why there is no push rod there.

The back-up camera on our 2011 Ford Edge shows shows images upside down or a blank screen 50% of the time. How do we fix this?
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Issues like this are typically related to electrical issues, or programming issues. Both can cause you symptoms, and similar problems. In these situations, there may be several things you have to try until you find the problem. Start with the easiest and cheapest solutions researched first, and work your way up in complexity and cost. Begin with accessing the camera’s settings, and attempting to get the camera’s program to catch up with itself. This has to be done when the camera is malfunctioning. You can then try to reboot the system via the controls, or unplugging it for 20 minutes. You may then want to turn to updating the system’s software, which may need to be done by the dealership or authorized technician. Worst case scenario you will have to replace the camera and its control module. For more help with diagnostics, contact our service department for an inspection.

Hi Jose. I have 320i 2005 model with 113000km now. last service was in Dec 2013. Can you comment on any possible problem i might face? 2005 BMW 320i
ANSWER : Hello – if the last maintenance was 3+ years ago, I would start by having all the fluids and filters refreshed: engine oil & filter, fuel filter, engine coolant. Drain the fuel tank, and get some fresh fuel in it. The automatic transmission is probably OK since BMW claims it has "lifetime fluid" in it. However, if the transmission has any odd behavior at all, don’t hesitate to have the transmission fluid and filter serviced as well. Pay attention to the brakes for any pulling to one side or the other (sticking calipers), and check the date on the tires [last 4 digits of the DOT code on the tire (ww/yy)]. Tires break down over time because of the ozone in the air, and can fail if they are simply too old. These services can be performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, and make short work of this "catch-up maintenance".

ANSWER : Hi there, thanks for writing in. You will need to have the cooling system pressure tested to see what is leaking. I know of coolant leak issues in the front area of the intake at the thermostat area, but not leaks in the rear of the intake area. You may have a coolant leak in one of the coolant hoses or leaking back from the front. If you would like help with having this inspection performed, consider having one of our expert automotive technicians come to your home or office in Auburn, WA to inspect and diagnose this leak for you, and make any repairs as needed.

Why won’t the screen on the driver information center will not return to the original screen?
ANSWER : Most driver information systems should have a back button of some sort. If you are pressing the back button and nothing is happening, it is possible that your driver information center could be malfunctioning. If this is the case, I would recommend visiting your local dealership to have it diagnosed as they have the proper testing equipment for vehicle features such as this. It is possible that the whole unit may require replacement for the system to work properly. You may also try turning the vehicle off and restarting it to see if it will automatically reset to the home screen.
