How long does it take to fix a power window? Experienced technicians can complete most power window repairs in one hour or less. However, if a more complicated issue arises or multiple parts of a power window need to be replaced, the service can run longer.

You might be able to put your power window up manually by pressing your palms together on both sides of the window and slowly moving it up. If your power window motor is still somewhat operational, it might help to have someone press the window switch to the “close” position while you`re doing this.
Check the fuse

Other cars have individual fuses for each window motor so failure will only affect the one window. In some cars the fuse is in the main fusebox but many makers use in-line fuses so check with your manual to find where the fuse is and replace it if blown.

In some cases, a power window motor can be repaired and doesn`t require replacements, thus saving YOU money! When to Replace Your Windows. Home windows have a lifespan of 15-20 years. Once they reach this age, the seals start to weaken or fail, which leaves you open to drafts and water seepage. In addition, single-pane windows were the standard 15+ years ago.
Windows that are over 20 years old should be replaced. If you`ve lived in your home for decades and have never replaced the windows, they are likely original to the house. Replacing your windows will keep you up-to-date with the latest window technology. Older windows are likely to be made with pane glass.
The cheapest windows for a house are typically uPVC windows. uPVC is known for its affordability, low maintenance, and energy efficiency, and frames are available in various styles, including casement, sash, and bay. A fixed or casement style in this material would generally be the cheapest choice.
Not always. If the frames are still good, you can save some money by simply replacing the broken glass. However, if the frames are old, it might be worth it to go ahead and replace the whole window.
Look at the fuse wire. If there is a visible gap in the wire or a dark or metallic smear inside the glass then the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced.
How do I know if my power window motor is bad? If your window won`t close completely, it doesn`t move as quickly as it used to, the window doesn`t move at all, or there are strange noises or smells when you press a power window switch, the power window motor has likely failed.
A standard power window repair at a general automotive shop can cost between $400 – $600 depending on the vehicle. Most shops will opt to install a new window regulator and motor assembly even if the motor is fine. Why is that?

It could be caused by something simple like a child safety switch or a blown fuse. Still, a window that won`t go up could be due to a more complex reason, such as a bad window motor or switch requiring professional electric window repair.

None of my power window will go up or down. And I just replace the power window relay
ANSWER : Check the 20 amp power window circuit breaker in the engine compartment fuse box. If the circuit breaker is sending power to the relay then the main power window switch will need to be checked to see if it is getting power on the yellow and light green wire at the switch. If you are getting power, then the problem will be in the main control switch. Check for power at the yellow, white, and black wires that go to the front power window motor, they should have power when you move the driver window switch up or down with the key in the on position. If you find that there is no power then the switch is at fault. If you need more help diagnosing the problem, contact a certified mechanic who can assess the issue with your windows and make the necessary repairs.

Power window on driver side goes down when car placed in reverse or drive without touching power window buttons.
ANSWER : Hi there. The only thing that would cause this is an electrical short, caused perhaps by an exposed wire in the power window module, which is located in the center console of your Ford Explorer. The best advice we could offer would be to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location to complete an electrical problems inspection to try and isolate the source of this issue.

Electrical issue with window
ANSWER : Hi there. If you are still unsure after testing both components, you could always make a switched jumper wire, or use a circuit tester that is capable of acting as a switch. This way, you can avoid having to buy another switch and taking a chance that it is not the problem. Or you could supply voltage directly to the motor, in a short burst, to see if the motor functions in each direction. Just be aware that you need to be careful not to injure yourself around the moving parts. If you would like to have an expert perform this procedure for you, a qualified professional from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to diagnose the electrical system and follow through with proper repairs.

Hi, I want to know how much it will cost if I have to replace the motor of the two windows in the back of my car. The windows are
ANSWER : If you are referring to the rubber wiper blades, those are inexpensive and just clip on. However, if the wiper system does not work at all the cost to repair the wipers ranges widely because the problem could be as simple as a disconnected wire to the wiper motor or as involved, and costly, as a failed wiper motor. The wiper system would have to be diagnosed to give you accurate cost information. The issues with the windows and the turn signal are similarly difficult to estimate without a diagnostic. For example, the window on the left side might just have a stuck or sticking regulator within the door and thus no new parts are needed. On the right, if there is an electrical fault, such as a bad switch, the cost will be much lower than if the window motor on the right has to be replaced. If the turn signal switch is broken, column disassembly is required. However, if the fault is simply high resistance in the wiring to the bulbs, the bulb terminals or the bulbs, the cost will be much, much lower. All of these items can be estimated and repaired during one trip (or, at least, commencing during the first trip) so as a practical matter, what I recommend that you do is simply request wiper repair and turn signal repair as these are the two critical items that must be working for you to use the car and the mechanic will let you know exactly what is wrong and what the cost will be. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

All 4 power windows won’t roll up or down from any of the window controls in the cabin.
ANSWER : Hello. Typically when this occurs it is because there is an issue with the MCU in the fuse box under the dash. This is a module that is used to provide power to the master switch. It can also be caused by the box itself. I usually need to test all of the circuits with a voltage meter to see where the switch is losing its power. Used a quick fix for my broken power window: hold switch up and slam door. What might need replacing if it worked for me?
ANSWER : Hi there. In most cases, the quick fix that you learned online will lead you to knowing what component was damaged. In this case, if you press a window switch and slam the door, it will shake or rattle the connections to the switch and "magically" roll the window up. As such, the problem is most likely either the individual motor on that window or the switch relay to that window. It’s probably a better idea to have one of our mobile mechanics come to your location and complete a window does not work inspection, so they can inspect your car and determine exactly what needs to be repaired.
