How do I lock the doors with the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
The remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter allows you to lock your vehicle without using a key. When outside of the vehicle, press the lock button on the RKE transmitter (the lock button looks like a closed padlock). This button locks all of the doors, and the trunk, unless the driver door is open. If the driver door is open, all doors will lock except that door.
Tip
The RKE transmitter works up to 195 feet from the vehicle.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Keyless remotes contain a short-range radio transmitter, and must be within a certain range, usually 5–20 meters, of the car to work. When a button is pushed, it sends a coded signal by radio waves to a receiver unit in the car, which locks or unlocks the door.
Yes, it is possible to lock your keys in the car even if it has a keyless entry. If you have ever accidentally left your key fob in the car and shut the door, you know this can happen. The best way to avoid locking your keys in the car is to always check that you have your key fob with you before leaving the car.
As long as the key is on your person, the car will take care of locking or unlocking the doors on your behalf. Keyless entry is becoming more popular on cars of all shapes, sizes and prices, so if you`re looking for a more convenient way to lock and unlock your car, keyless entry might be perfect for you.
A keyless door lock, otherwise known as a smart lock, is an electronic device using a smartphone app, keypad, or card to control a door lock. Unlike traditional locks, keyless locks mean we can gain access without a physical key. They can be opened differently, depending on the brand and model.
For keyless, you have to have physical proximity with the vehicle. With remote, you may be able to gain access from great distances. Keyless entry systems almost always have a conventional key backup, while remote keyless entry systems may not.
How do they work? Pushbutton locks operate only when the correct buttons are pushed in the proper sequence and the turn knob is rotated. A new combination is set when the lock is installed using as many of the 5 buttons as desired. Buttons may be pressed individually or in unison.
Chances of theft

The layers of security in a keyless system are strong, but hackers are constantly developing newer ways to steal cars. Key programming tools are easily available both online and off, and in the wrong hands, one could reprogram a blank fob to your car`s transponder, thus compromising security.

Mechanical Key: Owners of cars with push-button start systems might not be aware that a mechanical key resides inside the key fob. This is so that owners can still unlock the driver`s door in cases when the car`s battery or the key fob`s battery runs out of juice, or the fob malfunctions.
Are keyless entry door locks safe? Yes, keyless entry door locks are safe. They are more secure than traditional locks because it is much harder for someone to guess your code than it is for them to pick a traditional lock.

all doors lock only by inserting key in passenger side door and locking
ANSWER : Your central locking system may have been designed with a control module in the circuit. This is a small computer that is responsible for controlling the different functions of a particular system. It is possible that the module for your central locking system may have shorted out internally preventing particular functions from working properly. I would recommend having a certified technician test your central locking module to determine if all of its functions are working properly.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.

I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.

Driver and Passenger doors won’t lock, but I hear them click and see the locks twitch.
ANSWER : If the same problem is happening even when you use the inside door lock switch then the most likely cause of the locks not moving is going to be weak actuators. You should replace the drivers lock actuator first since it is used the most and you will see it fixes the problem. Then you can replace the other doors as needed.

Having problems with door locks on 08 Cadillac CTS. Driver side door especially and will not lock or unlock with key. Others loc
ANSWER : This is often related to a malfunctioning door lock actuator, a blown fuse or a faulty power door lock switch. When you use the door lock switch in the car it sends a signal to a relay which then activates an actuator inside the door. The actuator is the final step in the process in that it is a small motor with a set of gears that actually locks and unlocks the latch mechanism inside the door allowing the door to open. When this motor is bad, the latch mechanism will fail to operate and cause the door not to unlock as it is designed to. In the case of a bad door lock relay, the power, normally needed to send the signal from the switch when you activate it to the actuator motor is not there. This means the relay is not allowing the circuit to be completed and the actuator motor is not activated. Any of the above may cause your power door lock switches not to work properly and should be diagnosed by a qualified mechanic. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at the door locks in your vehicle.

How do I program a new remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter with a recognized transmitter?
ANSWER : If your vehicle has no remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitters that are currently programmed, then you will need to program all of your RKE transmitters. This process can take a while, but is easy to do if you follow these instructions:

Make sure that your vehicle is turned off, and that you have all of the transmitters that you will be programming.
Extend the key from one of the RKE transmitters by pressing the button at the top of the transmitter.
Insert the key into the door lock on the outside of the driver’s side door, and turn the key into the unlock position five times, within a span of 10 seconds. After doing this, the Driver Information Center (DIC) will display the words “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
After about 10 minutes, the DIC will switch to the words “press engine start button to learn.” Following this prompt, press the ignition button. The DIC will then return to the words REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
Repeat step 4 two times, so that the vehicle has cycled through the ignition stage three times. At this point, all previously programmed transmitters will no longer work. That way, if a transmitter has been lost or stolen, it cannot be used on your vehicle any more. The DIC should now display the words READY FOR REMOTE #1.
Locate the RKE transmitter outlet, which is on the center console, directly next to the power outlet. Remove the plastic trim from the transmitter outlet, revealing the transmitter slot.
Place the RKE transmitter key that had been used in the driver’s side door into the transmitter outlet slot.
Press the ignition button. This will program the RKE transmitter.
When the DIC displays that the transmitter has been programmed, remove the transmitter and press the unlock button on it.
Repeat steps 7-9 with the remaining transmitters that you wish to program.
Press and hold the ignition button for 10 seconds, which will quit out of programming mode.
Place the plastic trim back on the transmitter outlet slot.
All of the RKE transmitters are now programmed.

Doors wont lock or unlock with fob or switch?
ANSWER : Hello. Further testing should be done to help solve your problem. Being that the door unlock reprogramming procedure has already been done and the fuses have been checked there’s not much left it could be. When you hit the unlock button you should hear a little noise in each of the doors. If you hear the noise that means that the motor inside of the door actuator is working therefore it is likely the actuator itself as the problem. Though if you do not hear any noise that means it is likely the motor inside of the actuator. The actuator motors are very common failure on Lexus. The Lexus Community is almost an uproar because the a L in Lexus should also stand for luxury but there have been widespread simple problems reported such as this. A technician such as those we have here at yourmechanic will be able to diagnose your door lock issue for you firsthand. But if you consider following the test I suggested that should help you narrow down to a solution as well.

It may also be a beneficial to take a door panel off and probe a multi meter to the door actuator connectors to ensure they are receiving the proper power and ground when the buttons are pressed. If they are that only leaves two things that can be at fault. The door actuator or the motor inside of the door actuator.
