Horn not working properly, only when I lock the door or push the panic button.
My horn isn't working. I replaced the relay and the fuse, but it still doesn't work. The horn works when I lock the doors or push the panic button, but not when I push on it on the steering wheel.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. If the horn is working at all other times, except when you try using it with the horn button, then you more than likely have an issue within the connection of the horn button. The contact inside if the column wears out over time and causes this. The job can be difficult as you must be very careful with the air bag when testing and repairing it. I would enlist the help of a certified mechanic, like one from YourMechanic.com, to prevent any issues with the air bag.

hold the lock and unlock button together and hold until it honks to reset it. if it doesn`t honk it might think a door is open or something as horn does not honk if a door is open. 536 people think this is helpful. Thanks.
It sounds like your power steering pump may be low on fluid, the fluid may be dirty or have air in it, or the pump itself could be damaged.
Because they are low down at the front of the car, horns often get wet and dirty, and the connections may rust. Usually the horn is earthed through its metal body and the mounting bracket. Rust here or in the connections can break electrical contact, and is the most frequent cause of horn failure.
The car horn sits at the front of your car where grime, dust, oils, and other small particles can build up over time. This can lead to build up or corrosion on the connector, resulting in poor conductivity. Sometimes, all you need to do is clean the wire connector and reattach it (good ol` WD-40 will do thee trick).
Your car is set by default to honk the horn when you lock your doors with the remote fob. However, you can change this if you prefer. Every vehicle made with the “honk when locked” feature can be programmed out by the owner or the dealer. On some newer vehicles this may be a setting on the dash or instrument panel.
Why doesn`t the alarm beep when locking or unlocking doors? The beep has been disabled or the alarm is malfunctioning. Check the manual on your alarm to enable the beep. If it still does not sound, have the alarm repaired or replaced.
Typically, the horn relay is found in the engine compartment junction or fuse box.
Check the fuse box to see if the fuse for the horn has blown. You may either find it on the inside of the car`s panel or under the hood. The fuse box may be faulty due to – damaged wiring or a short circuit. The blown fuse may hinder the electric power to go through, thus causing the horn to produce a quiet sound.
Most of the time, if the car alarm doesn`t sound, it didn`t set properly when you locked your vehicle or there`s an underlying electrical problem with your car, truck, or SUV. One way to test your alarm is to hit the panic button once you`ve locked your car to see if the alarm sounds.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.
I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.

all doors lock only by inserting key in passenger side door and locking
ANSWER : Your central locking system may have been designed with a control module in the circuit. This is a small computer that is responsible for controlling the different functions of a particular system. It is possible that the module for your central locking system may have shorted out internally preventing particular functions from working properly. I would recommend having a certified technician test your central locking module to determine if all of its functions are working properly.
My electric locks stopped working on ALL doors all at once.
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. Your symptoms sound like you are having an electrical issue. The power supply may be getting cut off before the locks’ wiring branches off to the doors. Typically the power for the locks runs through the fuse, module, and then the the locks. Often the power is routed through the driver’s door controls before branching off to the other doors. The first thing to do is check the fuse. If the fuse is fine, then you will want to check the power supply at the driver’s door panel. You will continue to work your way down the circuit component by component until you find the problem. For more help resolving the lock problem, contact our service department.

Driver and Passenger doors won’t lock, but I hear them click and see the locks twitch.
ANSWER : If the same problem is happening even when you use the inside door lock switch then the most likely cause of the locks not moving is going to be weak actuators. You should replace the drivers lock actuator first since it is used the most and you will see it fixes the problem. Then you can replace the other doors as needed.
Having problems with door locks on 08 Cadillac CTS. Driver side door especially and will not lock or unlock with key. Others loc
ANSWER : This is often related to a malfunctioning door lock actuator, a blown fuse or a faulty power door lock switch. When you use the door lock switch in the car it sends a signal to a relay which then activates an actuator inside the door. The actuator is the final step in the process in that it is a small motor with a set of gears that actually locks and unlocks the latch mechanism inside the door allowing the door to open. When this motor is bad, the latch mechanism will fail to operate and cause the door not to unlock as it is designed to. In the case of a bad door lock relay, the power, normally needed to send the signal from the switch when you activate it to the actuator motor is not there. This means the relay is not allowing the circuit to be completed and the actuator motor is not activated. Any of the above may cause your power door lock switches not to work properly and should be diagnosed by a qualified mechanic. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at the door locks in your vehicle.

ANSWER : Hi there. Many new vehicles have many customizable options available. Each model is individually different in respects as to how these options can be customized. Some require the use of a factory authorized scan tool while others have the options available via the navigation screen. The owner’s manual is generally the best reference material available for your vehicle and most likely has the description of available settings and how to change them. As is the case with most new vehicles, the dealer is probably your best option for assistance. Your Mechanic is available for all of your service needs.
