Diagnostic Trouble Code P0303 means that Cylinder No. 3 is misfiring but the causes of that misfiring can be very varied. The other Code that you probably saw, namely P0304, just refers to the same misfiring but it is occurring in a different cylinder, namely cylinder No. 4. Among the causes of cylinder misfiring are faulty spark plugs, low compression, damage or excessive wear of spark plug wires and/or coils, faulty fuel injector, clogged EGR valves or tubes, burned valves, improper ignition timing, vacuum leaks, leaking head gasket, faulty camshaft sensor, faulty crankshaft sensor, faulty mass air flow sensor, faulty oxygen sensor, faulty throttle position sensor, faulty catalytic converter, and others. If you want the cause pinpointed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a misfiring diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this diagnosed and resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic.
How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

A vacuum leak or a faulty fuel pump can also cause this symptom as well. The first thing the mechanic will do is determine which cylinder or cylinders is misfiring, and the spark plug color is probably the best way to tell.
The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Reliability Rating is 3.5 out of 5. It ranks 12th out of 32 for all car brands.
The Jetta hasn`t always been reliable. Data from Consumer Reports suggests that the 2010-2013 and 2019 models are prone to expensive transmission and body hardware issues. Luckily, these problems are not so common in later models, resulting in a 79 out of 100 reliability score from J.D. Power for the 2022 Jetta.
The VW Jetta mileage life expectancy is typically well over 100,000 miles and in many cases, in excess of 200,000 miles.
The most common causes of misfires are worn, improperly installed, and mishandled spark plugs, malfunctioning ignition coils, carbon tracking, faulty spark plug wires and vacuum leaks.
If left untreated, a cylinder misfire can lead to significant engine damage. Worse, if you experience a bad misfire while driving, it could result in an accident. This is why it`s important to treat engine misfires as soon as you detect them.
Fuel-economy estimates for the S engine are 24 mpg city and 34 mpg highway for the manual version and 23/32 for the automatic.
The the Generation 3 version of the 1.8L TSI takes the crown as the best VW engine on the market.
However, the Volkswagen Jetta SEL is the best, as it is the top trim level, although many will find that the Volkswagen Jetta SEL has everything they need. The Jetta GLI is even more impressive, with racing-inspired performance.
According to motorask.com, a Volkswagen that is cared for properly should last 100,000 – 200,000 miles. Some have lasted far beyond that. A few of the factors that can influence how long a Volkswagen lasts include: The particular model purchased.
Repairs are less severe and less frequent than the average car, so the Jetta is one of the more reliable vehicles on the road and some Jetta models have even exceeded the 200,000-mile mark with only a few issues. If we use the 100,000-mile mark as an indicator, the average VW Jetta will last about 7.5 years.
But an amazing fact is that diesel engines can run for 1,000,000-1,500,000 miles before needing any major diesel repairs. If kept well-maintained, a diesel engine can be driven for about 30 years or more.
Driving with a misfiring cylinder is potentially dangerous. If you lose power while driving or a second or third cylinder goes out, this can cause you to get into a car accident, possibly injuring you and others around you.
Engine misfires happen when one of the cylinders does not produce sufficient spark or compression and lack of fuel. It could involve more than one cylinder. It can be caused by a faulty spark plug, fuel injector, ignition coil and or worn cylinder.
Engine misfires can be caused by a list of faults, but there are a few suspects that occur more than others. The primary villains are simple – spark or fuel – usually manifesting in spark plugs, plug wires, the coil(s) or the fuel-delivery system.
A misfire typically occurs when the timing of this ignition is off. Volkswagen Jetta P0300 indicates that two or more cylinders are experiencing misfires.

Rattling heard and felt from underneath car when accelerating. Car hesitates (as if it will cut off) when accelerating
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. Sorry to hear of your difficulty with your 2012 Sonic. The good news is your Check Engine Light is on, so what means the fault has been "recorded" by the engine computer and diagnostic codes will be available to the mechanic to search for the fault. The codes don’t necessarily indicate which "parts" have failed but rather will indicate which systems are malfunctioning and causing poor operation of the engine. Individual components in these systems will then have to be tested by the mechanic. The traction codes may or may not be related to the issue with the engine, the poor acceleration, but those traction codes will have to be evaluated as well. It is possible there is more than one problem. If you would like help, consider having an expert automotive technician from YourMechanic come to your home or office to inspect your vehicle for you and download codes your car computer has stored, and make or suggest any repairs as needed.
Car hesitates while accelerating, check engine light on all the time
ANSWER : The Check Engine Light going on and off is most likely caused by an engine misfire.
The intake manifold could be leaking vacuum when it is cold, and sealing up when the vehicle warms up. The engine running poorly can prevent the engine from getting up to operating temperature as fast as it should.
The Check Engine Light will have to be scanned to see which codes are stored in the computer’s memory. Once the code is diagnosed, then a repair can be identified.
i was driving and my oil light kept going off. Car had oil. Car wouldn’t accelerate. Car died. It does not turn engine over now.
ANSWER : It is very possible that the engine has been damaged beyond repair. Usually when the oil light goes on and the vehicle is low on oil, especially when a loud noise is heard right before the vehicle died, it is very likely that the engine is blown and would require replacement in order to continue driving the vehicle. I would recommend having the vehicle checked with a no start inspection. Consider YourMechanic as this service can be completed at your home or office.
My car won’t accelerate in drive. But will accelerate in park or reverse. The last couple of days. While driving the battery ligh
ANSWER : You may have a defective transmission valve body or the transaxle is bad internally. The manufacturer recommends replacing the valve body assembly first and then the complete transaxle if the problem is still happening.
I suggest having you transmission tested by a experienced transmission mechanic first and then move forward with the recommended repairs after being tested.
If you’d like a second opinion on this, contact a certified mechanic who can assess your acceleration issue firsthand and confirm my suspicions.
1994Camaro 1994 Chevrolet Camaro Base 6 Cyl 3.4L My car is accelerating with me stepping on the gas I was driving fine all day
ANSWER : The throttle on this car has a cable and you should check the floor mat to make sure it is not holding the throttle pedal. Also, look at the throttle body to make sure something is not holding the throttle open. If everything looks okay, then check to see if your idle air valve may be stuck. This can be done by a computer test to see if it is setting a code. A technician from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to have this checked out if you are still having problems.
When I drive my car for about ten minutes, the gas pedal does not accelerate anymore, non of the gears work.

My car has been diagnosed with a misfiring cylinder 4. Will it be safe for me to drive it home 100 miles ?
ANSWER : From the description you have provided, it is advisable to have your vehicle’s #4 cylinder misfire fixed before taking the 100-mile trip home. Depending on the cause of the misfire, consequential damage could occur to the cylinder wall, piston, and/or catalytic converter.
If fuel continues to be delivered without the spark, the cylinder wall could be washed of oil (increasing piston and cylinder wall wear), and excess fuel could be present in the catalytic converter (substrate could melt down). If the cause of the misfire is valve train related, additional cylinder head damage could occur.
The misfire could be due to a faulty spark plug, a faulty ignition coil, or a faulty fuel injector.
There are other things, that could also cause the misfire. It is recommended that you get a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, to inspect your vehicle and determine the cause of the cylinder misfire.
