electrical problems

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe everytime I drive it around it's fine. Once I turn it off I have to wait 15 to 20 minutes to start it back up again. My engine light isn't on so I don't know what's wrong with it.
My car has an automatic transmission.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Ideally, I would ask you a question. Does it crank or not when it won’t start?

This is certainly an electrical component failure. Electrical components are susceptible to heat failures. What I outline below are some of the possibilities.

No Crank

It is very common for Chevy starters to get to hot and not crank the motor. Waiting 15-20 minutes allows it to cool down and then it will turn the motor and allow it to start. There are two ways to fix this.

Heat shield. If the starter has a heat shield, then you will need to replace the starter. if there isn’t a heat shield, you could begin by adding one and see if that fixes your problem. If you have installed headers or an aftermarket exhaust system of some sort, you will need to find a way of keeping the heat from the starter by installing a quality heat shield. There are many different designs of heat shields. Do some research to see what will work best for you. Keep in mind, once a starter begins to exhibit this symptom, you may need to replace the starter as well as add a heat shield.

Crank No Start

Fuel Pump System. The next possibility, but less common in the context of your symptoms, is the fuel pump or fuel pump relay. These two items are electrical components just like your starter motor. All electrical components are susceptible to heat problems. You will need to check fuel pressure when the car won’t start to know for sure.

Ignition. Ignition module is mounted under the distributor cap and is a very common failure of this type. Check for spark when it is failing.

PCM (powertrain control module). The PCM is not a common failure on your vehicle, but it can fail much like the others.

Good luck!

Engine, electrical system, and structural issues are among the top complaints to the NHTSA from vehicle owners. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe is a full-size SUV designed to carry the largest families.
Hello – the reduced power mode your truck drops into is electrical in nature, and most often a problem with bad ground wire connections between the engine and chassis, and the chassis and battery.
This issue is related to the throttle position sensor, and can be caused by faulty wiring to the TPS, bad connection at the TPS, or a failed TPS. To correct this issue, the wiring harness, connector, and throttle position sensor must be inspected, tested, and/or replaced. The most common cause is a faulty TPS.
The most common car electrical system problems are problems with your car battery, an alternator that isn`t working properly, loose or failed spark plugs, a fatigued solenoid or starter, bad battery cables, electrical fuses that are blown, loose wires, or problems with your ignition switch.
Be wary of Tahoes from 2004 to 2009, which struggle with engine and transmission problems that can lead to early failure. Realistically, you can expect a Chevrolet Tahoe to last 150,000 miles. Just know that maintaining a Tahoe to 200,000 miles or more can be pricey.
The safest Tahoe year models to purchase are 1995 – 1998, 2000, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2017 – 2020. There`s very little to worry about with all of these year models, as all have garnered very few complaints over the years.
Low engine oil, loose cables, and a clogged catalytic converter commonly cause reduced engine power. Tighten loose cables or clean your oxygen and mass air flow sensors to bypass reduced engine power. Replace your battery or catalytic converter if they are damaged to override reduced engine power.
It is generally safe to drive with the “Reduced Engine Power” light on, but you should take your car to a mechanic as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
Loose connections are the most common source of electrical equipment failure, causing over 30% of unexpected outages. To help prevent these issues: Check all connections periodically and ensure they are tight. Follow any applicable manufacturer`s instructions for tightening.
If your vehicle won`t start, it`s usually caused by a dying or dead battery, loose or corroded connection cables, a bad alternator or an issue with the starter. It can be hard to determine if you`re dealing with a battery or an alternator problem.
Set the multi-meter to the correct voltage scale (0 to 20 volts) and connect it across the battery terminals. Start the engine and note the voltage reading, then slowly increase the engine speed up to about 2000rpm, at the same time checking the voltage readings on the meter.

Will a bad O2 sensor cause rough idle and loss of engine power? You bet. Moreover, you may also notice poor acceleration, engine misfires, and even stalling.
Engine Power Loss

Your high-performance engine will lag if the O2 sensor is bad and tricking the engine control unit (ECU) into putting too much air in the combustion chamber. This creates a lean fuel mixture in the chamber and causes sputtering and power loss in the engine.

Cleaning the throttle body properly will help improve the idle, acceleration, fuel efficiency, and any potential issues with stalling. Your car will drive smoother and more efficiently and you will be saving money on fuel so it is definitely worth the investment of time and energy into cleaning the throttle body.
Based on data collected by RepairPal, the three most common Chevy Tahoe problems are: 4WD transfer case position sensor/selector switch may fail – reported by 483 owners. Electrical or transmission problems with Hummer
ANSWER : Hi there. This vehicle is known for having a history of electrical issues. From the symptoms you are getting it sounds like a bad ignition switch or a failing body control module. Most of the time it is the ignition switch. When it fails internally it causes these systems to act up almost like the key is being turned off and on. This can be diagnosed with a voltage meter by doing a voltage drop test on the switch. If the switch is fine then the body control module will need to be replaced. If this is something that you want to have diagnosed, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your office to inspect your electrical problems.

While diriving my 2017 honda civic my dash displayed powered steering (eps) problem, what does this mean?
ANSWER : Yes, all of those issues should be checked out, especially as the warning lights involve key vehicle safety systems like the steering system. Your vehicle is under warranty as it is brand new. You should bring the car back to the dealer and have them resolve the issues at no cost to you. If the issues recur, be sure to follow up, as needed, and if the issues are not permanently resolved, in a reasonable number of visits to the dealer, keep in mind that very specific, and very protective (of the consumer) state and Federal Lemon laws apply to new vehicles. I mention all this because you are driving a brand new car and yet all these warning lights have appeared. That’s not an expected outcome and thus you should follow-up promptly and make sure this gets fully and thoroughly resolved. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Locks don’t all work, might be electric problem
ANSWER : The door latch assembly has a lock actuator as part of it. The complete assembly, except for a couple internal pieces, is made of plastic and doesn’t last as long as it used to when it was made of metal. These assemblies are more compact and lighter though. The repair needed for your car will be a replacement latch assembly in each door. This should correct the problem for at least a few years. There are aftermarket assemblies available which are an alternative to the dealer parts and may save your money on the cost of the parts. YourMechanic can quote the repair cost and install the assemblies for you.
