How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

A faulty regulator can prevent the engine from getting proper fuel pressure, resulting in a vehicle that cranks but doesn`t start.
These include a bad fuel pump relay or control module, a blown fuse, a wiring fault, loose or corroded wiring connector at the pump, or even an issue with the anti-theft system. Until these other possibilities have been checked out and eliminated, the fuel pump should be the last thing that`s replaced.
The most common reasons a Dodge Neon won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
Your engine won`t start. While the cause could be a range of issues related to fuel, compression, or spark, the fuel pump is often a likely culprit.
If the fuel pump fails completely — to the point of not being able to provide enough fuel for the engine to run, the vehicle will refuse to start. The engine will still crank when the key is turned, but it will be unable to start due to the lack of fuel.
If there is still no pressure, then replace the fuel filter and retest. If nothing after that, then the fuel pressure regulator is not working and needs replacing. If you get pressure to the rail, then there could be a problem with the injectors; they may be either dirty or plugged up.
The basic operating system for an electric fuel pump is relatively simple. When the key is turned on, the powertrain control module (PCM) closes the fuel pump relay, which activates the fuel pump for about three seconds to pressurize the fuel injectors.
Why won`t my car start but I have power? If you attempt to start up your car but the engine won`t turn over and the dashboard lights up, then you most likely have an issue with your battery. You could have a damaged or corroded battery terminal, which is stopping the engine from starting up when you fully turn the key.
If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won`t start, it could be because fuel isn`t getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
To confirm that your pump has failed, check the pressure in your fuel lines with a fuel pressure gauge; if it reads zero, then your pump is likely dead. You can also check your car`s fuse box; a blown fuel pump fuse is another reliable symptom of a failed pump.
If your car won`t start, but your battery is fine, chances are you have a bad alternator. This is another charging system issue, like a dead battery, that won`t let you start your car.
A faulty fuel pressure regulator may result in engine misfires, reduction in power, poor acceleration, and a decrease in fuel efficiency. That said, the symptoms can also take place owing to other mechanical issues.
Bad Sensors

One common culprit for this problem is the crankshaft position sensor, which measures the position and speed of the crankshaft. The computer uses the information from this sensor to know when to fire the spark plugs. If the sensor isn`t working, the spark plugs won`t fire, keeping the engine from starting.

Dodge Neon SE 2003 problem is code P0440
ANSWER : The trouble code P0440 means the Evaporative emission control system is malfunction. This malfunction may have been caused by a number of different things including, a loose or missing gas cap, a vacuum leak, a faulty purge valve, an issue with your charcoal canister, incorrect fuel pressure, or electrical issues.

I would recommend having your entire EVAP system inspected by a mechanic who is proficient in diagnosing emissions issues. The most likely cause of this issue is either a loose gas cap or a vacuum leak.

Sometimes the issue is very obvious and may be spotted just by opening the hood. It is possible that a hose may have come loose causing the trouble code to be stored and the Check Engine Light to come on. For a proper diagnosis, consider YourMechanic, as a certified technician from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect the Check Engine Light and make proper adjustments or repairs.

hi, I need some help to decide weather to purchase a 2000 dodge ram 1500 magnum or a 2003 dodge ram 1500 small engine
ANSWER : On the 2000 magnum you can expect to pay $500 on tires. If the 2003 had an overheating issue, whether or not it get fixed is a concern. The 2003 is a newer vehicle even though it has 15k more miles. My best guess could possibly not be very accurate, since it comes down to the condition and how good they look to me.

I would recommend having a professional mechanic do a complete pre-purchase inspection on both trucks in order to give you an idea of the problems they may have. Afterwards you’ll have the information to make an informed decision.

I have a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix SE and want to put a supercharger motor in it. Will it fit and can I use the SE transmission?
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. The supercharged engine will fit in your car and it should bolt up to the transmission that is already in your car. Pontiac made cars that year that had supercharged engines and I’m pretty sure the transmission is no different from the Pontiac that didn’t have a supercharged engine. It should not be a problem to put in the supercharged engine but you may also have to change the computer so the car will run right. Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Although the engines are the same size internally, it is very common for manufacturers to change the location of engine mounts both on the engine and the interior of the engine compartment. 2014 Dodge Avenger SE Exhaust Sound Fix / Upgrade
ANSWER : Your car should not have any type of silencer on it other than the factory muffler and catalytic converter. In terms of giving it a more impressive exhaust sound, there are certainly options for exhaust by performance exhaust manufacturers such as Mopar performance (Factory Dodge), MBRP, Flowmaster and AFE to name a few. I would recommend investigating some of these brands as they offer many different options related to exhaust. There are generally a couple of options when it comes to performance exhaust 1) "cat back" options which generally include the exhaust from the catalytic converter back to the muffler and 2) headers all the way back to the mufflers. This is an exhaust system that starts at the cylinder heads and goes all the way back to the mufflers, which generally offers a much more "complete" exhaust system allowing for much better breathing when in terms of exhaust.
