Clutch Issue
Hello,
My Clutch is CLEARLY not fully disengaging but is perfectly fine when fully engaged. It's "sticking" from what I just read on your website. Before reading the info on your website, I took my vehicle to get checked out at an Auth. Chevy Service Dept, and after 1 hour of labor they returned and said "these are the parts that are starting to go"-a flywheel (24245480), a slave cylinder (92159965), a pressure plate (19257348) & 7.1 hrs of labor totaling over $1,800.
My main question is, with ZERO slipping when engaged, no noticeable loss in power/torque, could it
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hello. From what you are explaining it sounds like the clutch itself is failing. This vehicle had a lot of issues with the clutch which can cause it to fail prematurely. Most of the time when the clutch friction disc wears down the clutch will start to bind at times. This is a design issue, but it is because it stops sliding well internally. If you are going to pull the transmission out it is important to change all of the related parts, because the transmission removal is the largest part of the cost. If you want to save some money you should have a transmission specialist check it out.

Similar to brake pads, clutches do not have a recommended replacement mileage. They do wear out, but some will last over 100,000 miles.
The issues range from the engine surging when coming to a stop or making a rattling noise when cracking up. Furthermore, some owners posting on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website have mentioned rough shifts and hesitations.

The average lifespan of a clutch is anywhere between 20,000 to 150,000 miles. Luckily, your clutch will likely give you ample notice that something is going wrong.
Most clutches are designed to last approximately 60,000 miles before they need to be replaced. Some may need replacing at 30,000 and some others can keep going well over 100,000 miles, but this is fairly uncommon.
2021 Chevrolet Camaro transmission problems could include shifting delays, jumping or grinding during acceleration, the car shaking on the road, or a burning smell or whistling sounds coming from under the hood.

When replacing my fan clutch should I change my cooling fan to a flex-a-light and get a new flex-a-light clutch?
ANSWER : Hi there. It is best to always put on the OEM parts that are required for the vehicle. However, you can get a flex-a-light clutch fan for your vehicle as long as it will bolt up to your water pump pulley and clear the radiator and shroud. I recommend having a clutch design fan for your vehicle and not a fan that spins with the engine all the time. Those fans will cause the engine to overheat on highways and in town especially in hot weather. If you need further assistance with your cooling fan, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.
Clutch engaged with pedal up or down issue? 2006 Mazda 3
ANSWER : Hi there – there are several possibilities here – none of them pleasant, and all will require removal of the transmission to get to the failed bit. It is possible the pilot bearing has seized up – which would make it seem as though the clutch were engaged, regardless of whether the clutch pedal was depressed (and working properly) or not. It’s also possible the clutch pressure plate "fingers" where the throwout bearing applies forced from the clutch pedal and hydraulics are damaged in some fashion, and will not compress to release the clutch disc. Last and least likely is a failure of the clutch master cylinder – internally – since there doesn’t appear to be any fluid loss. I recommend a clutch inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.
Clutch pedal stays to floor. Replaced master cylinder. Clutch push rod broke. Also do I need to change slave cylinder
ANSWER : If you have an issue with your clutch pedal going to the floor, the slave cylinder is normally the cause of this circumstance.
Also, if the push rod has been broken the first step would be to track down a new one because that push rod is a very necessary part of the clutch pedal system.
Once a new push rod has been located and installed, I would recommend having a new slave cylinder installed as well.
If you are in doubt about this repair, I would recommend having it performed by a qualified professional, such as one from YourMechanic. One of our mobile technicians will be able to come to your home to diagnose the issue with your clutch pedal and replace your clutch slave cylinder as necessary.
I can’t go into 4th or 5th gear and clutch does not engage after a recent clutch job, clutch release while in gear does nothing.
ANSWER : I would rule out the axle not being pushed all the way in. That would effect all speeds and gears. That you can engage gears other than 4th and 5th leads me to 2 m possibilities:
1. Shift linkage mis-adjusted.
2. Possible bent shifter fork internally.
If it feels like you can engage 4th and 5th with the engine OFF, then I would lean towards a clutch release issue.
Clutch lost all hydraulic pressure after difficulty engaging gears while using the clutch.
ANSWER : Hello. This situation is usually a failure of either the clutch master or slave cylinder – they simply wear out. If you have any clutch fluid on the drivers side front carpet, the failure is the clutch master cylinder. If the fluid loss is on the ground, under the rear of the engine, the slave cylinder is the failing component. It is often more economical in the long run to replace both with your advanced mileage as they wear at similar rates. I would recommend having the clutch master and slave cylinder replaced by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, to repair this problem.
My clutch is not working Entire clutch repair or clutch master cylinder repair? How do I check the cylinder?
ANSWER : Hi there. Check the slave cylinder to the clutch and see if the piston is all the way out. If the piston is all the way out or its not touching the clutch fork, then the release bearing has broken and the fork has moved into the clutch. If the slave cylinder is relaxed and the fork is against it, then the clutch pressure plate has sprung a pressure spring. If the pedal can go down but not all the way to the floor, then the clutch needs replaced with a new release bearing. If you need further assistance with a clutch replacement, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.
Soft clutch, topped off clutch fluid reservoir and clutch pedal became firm/springing back on its own.
ANSWER : It is most common for the clutch hydraulic leak to be from a leaking clutch slave cylinder. You should have the clutch hydraulic system inspected by YourMechanic to see why the fluid is getting low. The fluid gets low anytime there is a leak in the system. You may need to have the clutch slave cylinder replaced. If the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder are both need replaced then it is a good idea to have both the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced together as a pair.
Replaced clutch on a 06 tundra and the clutch pedal has no resistance at all. what could cause this issue?
ANSWER : Hi there. Go under the vehicle and check the slave cylinder and see if the return spring is attached or hanging. The return spring is what gives the pedal a resistance if the fluid is being pushed back. Also check the pedal return spring in the cab and make sure that its not broken. Also, check the slave cylinder and other related parts and see if they are leaking any fluid. Replace any part that is leaking fluid or missing. If you need further assistance with your clutch pedal having no resistance, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.
