Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
To answer your question in one word – YES, the wrong spark plugs or incorrect spark plug gap can and often will cause a vehicle’s engine to misfire or run incredibly inefficient. However, the issue of the vehicle shutting off "out of nowhere" seems outside of the realm of possibility of an incorrect spark plug. Misfiring issues could be related to a faulty coil, bad plug wires, even fuel injection issues.
To be safe, I’d recommend contacting one of our local ASE certified mechanics who will check with your vehicle manufacturer first to determine the correct spark plugs to use before they replace them for you.
How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :
Improperly functioning spark plugs cause an uneven burn of fuel in the engine, resulting in fluctuating RPMs and a louder noise. You might also experience increased vibrations of your vehicle while sitting idle or while traveling at low speeds. These vibrations originate from the engine and can shake the entire car.
Incorrectly removing or installing spark plugs can cause damage to your engine. Also, care needs to be taken when removing spark plug wires, especially if you plan to reuse them. It`s possible to damage the threads inside the engine when installing the spark plug. And that can be a costly mistake.
Malfunctioning spark plugs cause engine problems including, misfires, hard starts, reduced gas mileage, rough idling, and lack of acceleration. Driving with a faulty spark plug will be difficult because the engine might fail to function.
The most common signs of bad spark plugs include start-up trouble, rough idling, sluggish acceleration, declining fuel economy, engine misfiring, and engine knocking.
Misfiring due to excessive heat, quenching, increased fuel consumption and even engine failure can occur from the use of incorrect or mismatched spark plugs, so it`s best to replace all of your spark plugs at the same time, and with the correct type of spark plug, to ensure smooth and consistent operation.
Repeated overheating of the spark plug tip can cause the plug to prematurely fail. Overheating can be caused by many things like pre-ignition and a malfunctioning cooling system. Pre-ignition can lead to heat building up in the combustion chamber causing the spark plugs to fail.
Bad or Dirty Spark Plugs: Bad spark plugs can cause the vehicle to misfire which will make it run louder.

Spark plug chaos. Rubber stoppers are preventing the spark plugs from coming out.
ANSWER : Hi there. Try using a pair of small needle nose pliers to pull off the rubber boots from the spark plugs. As you pull, twist the rubber boots to break them free. think i put wrong oil in car went few miles lose power car dies oil in spark plugs still starts low oil blinking light before die.
ANSWER : Hello. If you put too thick of an oil in the car, then you may have damaged the engine bearings but this should not have caused oil to get in to the spark plugs unless the oil got into the intake of the engine or one of the pistons rings broke. If you ran it without oil and then tried to put oil in thinking it would be okay after that, then you were not that lucky and broke or damaged all of the rings on the pistons. If you would like to have this looked over, a certified professional from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to inspect the stalling issue and go over all of the relevant systems for a better diagnosis.
Power steering loss, no belts are turning but the car is running fine. I also have a soft pedal. Whats wrong with my car?
ANSWER : I have only seen this situation once in my 30+ years and it turned out to be a broken crankshaft pulley. Belts are driven by the engine. The crankshaft pulley spins the belts, which in turn spin the air conditioner compressor, power steering and water pumps, and the alternator. The vehicle should be towed to your local repair shop and not driven. Without the water pump spinning to circulate the coolant, the engine will quickly overheat and result in more extensive damage.
Car makes noise only in the morning
ANSWER : Hello. Thank you for writing in. When the vehicle sits for an extended period of time, the oil collects at the bottom of the engine due to gravity. This causes the engine and components in which the oil lubricates to run dry. There is no problem with this while the engine is off, and every car does this. Now when the vehicle turns on, the engine will need a moment to circulate that oil throughout the engine. Once the oil becomes warm enough to be the viscosity in which the engine desires, and everything has had a moment to become lubricated again, there should not be any more noises coming from the valves. If this is a new noise or it is irritating to you, you can attempt to change your oil or maybe even change the type of oil that you were using. The noise is simply the engine not having oil when it first starts up. But this is normal.
My car starter was fixed recently, when I got my car back I noticed a flapping or ticking noise like a card in a bike spoke. Now i
ANSWER : Hi there. Typically replacing a starter on a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica shouldn’t require much ’fiddling around’, however, it’s possible that the mechanic was replacing a starter relay if the original replacement didn’t solve the issue. That shouldn’t cause a ticking noise as you’ve described though. It’s probably a good idea to have one of our professional mobile mechanics come to your location and complete a car is making a noise inspection, especially if this noise is progressively getting worse. This will allow them to isolate the source of the noise and determine what repairs are needed to resolve this problem.
