Black Dash with no Crank on 2004 Honda Civic
2004 Honda Civic won't crank. With the key in position two, everything looks normal: lights work, radio works, doors lock, windows open, indicators are on. However, as soon as I turn the key to start (3rd position) everything immediately goes black–a total shutdown; nothing works. When I return the key to 2nd position, the dash remains black, controls don't work. Removing the key and waiting a few minutes returns to initial state. But still no crank. Replaced battery, replaced starter, replaced the ignition circuit. Checked all fuses, wires, and terminals–all OK.

Hi there. It is quite possible that your ignition lock cylinder has a mechanical glitch that is creating a massive electrical short once it’s activated to the third ignition switch. In most cases, the best way to resolve this problem is to replace the ignition lock cylinder as tracing this problem will typically require you to remove it anyways; and it more trouble than it is worth.
How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :
The most common reasons a Honda Civic won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
If your vehicle won`t start but you hear a rapid clicking sound when you turn the key then you may have a problem with your battery or alternator.
The most common reasons a Honda Civic key won`t turn are a binding steering column/lock, an ignition switch issue, or a problem with the ignition key.
The reason your Honda Civic won`t start and has no clicking noise is likely because you have a bad starter. When you have a bad starter, you won`t hear the clicking noise like you would if the battery was dead or the alternator was going bad.
Fortunately (spoiler alert) the root cause of a no-crank is almost always simple. Most of the time it`s simply due to a low or dead battery, or voltage drop through a corroded connection. Rule those out before you suspect the starter itself.
It might be a battery or alternator problem.
A rapid clicking noise when trying to start your car could mean there`s something wrong within the electrical system. Perhaps your battery`s dead, or your alternator, which charges the battery, isn`t working correctly.
The most common reasons a Honda Accord won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
The most common reason cars don`t start is a dead or faulty battery. Even though most cars run on gasoline, they all require electrical power to function. The starter that cranks your engine to start requires an electrical signal to fire. If something`s wrong with your battery, your car engine won`t turn over.
If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the “Start” position, it means that the starter motor doesn`t turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a low battery; read above How to check the battery.
Buzzing sound: This usually indicates poor current flow as the buzzing sound means the current is making its way to the solenoid but could not activate the plunger to engage the pinion gear and flywheel of the starter motor.
Why won`t my car start but I have power? If you attempt to start up your car but the engine won`t turn over and the dashboard lights up, then you most likely have an issue with your battery. You could have a damaged or corroded battery terminal, which is stopping the engine from starting up when you fully turn the key.
A weak or dead 12v battery is most likely the cause of your Accord not cranking or cranking very slowly. Ensure the battery in your vehicle is in good condition. A battery with 12.5 volts should be used. Alternatively, you can jumpstart it if you don`t have a voltmeter.
It might be a battery or alternator problem.
If the source of the clicking is electrical, the starter (a small motor energized by the battery that gets the engine running) doesn`t have enough juice to stay powered. So instead, it rapidly turns on and off and produces a clicking noise!

would 2010 honda civic engine fit in 2000 honda civic
ANSWER : The engine may fit but you would have two totally different wire harnesses, computer systems, theft systems, transmission controls, and sensors on the engines. They are all very different so anybody attempting this would have a very hard time getting this swap to work.
My Honda Civic 2016 manual tells me to delete a phone turn the selector button to do it. The new Civic doesnt have a selector but
ANSWER : Hello. You should be able to delete or unpair a phone by going into the settings by navigating the menus. The settings you are looking fore can likely be found in the bluetooth settings. For specific instructions you may refer to your owner’s manual or the dealership. In some cases, rebooting the head unit may be required. This can be done by holding the audio button for 5 seconds, and then confirming a reboot. If you are unable to unpair the phone I would consult a dealership if the vehicle is still under warranty.
My Honda security light is flashing on dash car will crank but won’t start
ANSWER : Hi there. If the Security Indicator Light is on steady with the key in the "run" position, and the vehicle won’t start, there could be a fault with the system. In this case, the first thing to try is a different key to see if this starts the vehicle. If it starts, the key is faulty or the system has a problem with that key. If you are still getting a no-start with the light on steady, the system is at fault and will need to be inspected by having a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a car is not starting inspection.
I have a 2004 acura tsx, is it possible to use a 2004 honda accord main power switch on my acura tsx?
ANSWER : Hi There,
Yes, the main relay for the Honda Accord is the same for the Acuras as well. I would suggest double checking the part numbers to be sure, but they should be interchangeable as they are exactly the same. If you need further help with this, please reach out to us here at YourMechanic as we are always here to help.
Died, then wouldn’t crank for a few min then cranked and drive but cut out once in the way back home.
ANSWER : This may sound like a dumb question, but when was the last time you put gas in it? It may be possible that the fuel gauge sending unit is failing and giving you a false reading. It is also possible that you have an electrical concern. If you have the Check Engine Light on, it will indicate that there is a diagnostic trouble code stored. If so, have the vehicle scanned for the codes, and that may help identify the system or component that requires further testing. A certified technician, like one from YourMechanic, will be able to diagnose these trouble codes and determine the exact cause of your concern.
its cranks slow, sometimes it cranks fine and other times i have to crank it twice, it happens randomly
ANSWER : A slow cranking condition is caused by not getting enough power to the starter. Since you replaced the starter then you may have a weak or borderline bad battery. One of your cables may be bad causing the slow crank condition.
If the battery is weak then you may get the problem one time and a sudden burst the next. If you battery is more than a couple years old I’d suggest having it load tested to see if it is bad or if is a cable problem.
Do not rule out the starter even if the problem was fixed for a while after the starter was replaced. I’d suggest getting your vehicle inspected by a qualified professional, such as one from YourMechanic, to diagnose your starting issue and repair it as necessary. Good luck.
My 2004 Honda Civic is making too much noise. Why and how would I address the issue?
ANSWER : Hi there. Assuming the noise is a high-pitched squeal when the A/C is turned on, it may be that the new belt has stretched and needs to be readjusted. The A/C compressor may also be failing, causing the belt to slip and make noise. There are other possibilities, of course.
I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to determine why your vehicle is making noise when a/c is turned on and suggest the needed repairs.
