Hi There,
Your brake light signals that there is some kind of issue going on with the battery or your charging system which consists mainly of your alternator and voltage regulator which work together to keep the battery charged. When this light comes on, it usually indicates that one of these is not working properly. As you may know, the alternator is responsible for charging the battery while the engine runs by generating amperage and recharging the battery while the engine turns the alternator. The voltage regulator is a unit that regulates the charging of the battery by the alternator and maintaining a certain amperage while the engine runs. When the alternator is not working properly, this may result in the battery quickly losing charge and the car losing all power as you have described. You may also notice a whining sound as a result of the bearings inside the alternator begin to fail.

Your brake light signals that your brake pads may be worn and due to be replaced or that you have a leak somewhere in your brake hydraulic system. The brake reservoir has a sensor inside that detects when the brake fluid reaches a certain point which generally indicates that it is time to replace the pads. As your pads wear thinner and thinner over time, the brake lines require more and more brake fluid to maintain the same amount of hydraulic pressure in the brake lines. As a result, the brake fluid level sensor will trigger a warning light indicating that the brake fluid level is low. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose your braking system to determine what may be causing this light to come on. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Brake and battery lights together indicate you have a problem with your charging system. Normally they both come on, which indicates you alternator died.
Often times many dash lights will illuminate when the battery is dead, indicating that a particular system (in this case the braking system) does not have the proper voltage to it.
Bad Switch: One common reason for the Parking Brake light to stay on is a failing or failed switch. This can be checked easily by jiggling the handle after it is down. If the light turns off (or turns off and then back on), the switch is the most likely culprit and will need to be replaced.
The car battery light might come on for several reasons, but generally, the reasons are: A dying car battery. Failing car battery connections. Car battery connections that are loose.
When your brake light comes on, your car is letting you know that either your vehicle is low on brake fluid, the emergency brake is activated, there`s trouble within the ABS unit, or there`s a problem with the sensors.
You need to change the alternator. The brake warning light and alternator are “like” on the same circuit… the alternator voltage is lower than it should be, it triggers the brake warning light too.
The brake light wiring system in most cars is not overly complex. At one end, you have the lights themselves: bulbs in sockets connected to a wiring harness. At the other end is the brake switch, where the pedal presses down and creates contact that completes the circuit. The system draws power from the car`s battery.
Both its use and wearability are straightforward. However, it cannot be utilised for parking or emergency braking. As a result, the electrical component of the brake system may not work effectively when the battery is low.
If the Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Warning light remains on after the engine has been started and the parking brake released, it may indicate that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low. If the warning light remains on, stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so and contact your nearest Kia dealer.
Can I Keep Driving My Car if the Battery Light Is On? Yes, you can, for a short time. The light indicates that the alternator isn`t charging the battery, which means your car`s electrical system isn`t getting the needed power.
Your battery light, also called the dashboard battery indicator, is designed to let you know about an issue with your vehicle`s battery or charging system. It could indicate that your battery is damaged or worn out, or that the charging system is malfunctioning in some way.
A dashboard battery light basically means there`s a battery charging problem. Your car isn`t getting enough voltage from the car battery to operate properly. It needs more “juice!”
A: The red brake warning light comes on when the parking brake is engaged. There is a hydraulic leak, or the brake fluid is low. Typically, when the red brake light is on, the other systems become disabled, since they need fully operational brake hydraulics to work properly.
The brake light switch sensor lets the ABS module in your car know when you`ve applied the brakes and indicates that it`s time to start the ABS hydraulic pump. That`s why if your ABS warning light comes on, there`s a chance that your faulty brake light switch is the culprit.
Signs of a Bad Alternator

Some of the things to look for are no-starting and trouble starting, dimming lights and problems with stereo system output. If your car starts but stalls when you`re underway, your battery is probably not being recharged due to a faulty alternator.

Regenerative braking is a mechanism found on most hybrid and full-electric vehicles. It captures the kinetic energy from braking and converts it into the electrical power that charges the vehicle`s high voltage battery. Regenerative braking also slows the car down, which assists the use of traditional brakes.
Issues such as faulty wiring, bad fuses or interior lights that fail to shut off will continue to drain your battery while it`s idle.
Like all fuses, the brake light system fuse can be found in the power distribution center, which is under the dashboard or tucked away underneath the hood.
If the dashboard light remains on, it`s telling you that thre is a brake system problem that could prevent you from stopping your vehicle. Turn off the engine and arrange to have the vehicle transported to your trusted mechanic.
Generally speaking, AEB systems include a radar sensor, positioned on the front grille, bumper or air vents of the car. This is used to actively measure the distance to the vehicle in front and detect objects that the car might crash into if it doesn`t adjust its speed.
The stop lamp fuse is in the left kick panel inside the vehicle. It is a 15amp fuse that powers the stop light switch on the brake pedal.
If you happen to be driving when the brake warning light first comes on, carefully pull over in a safe area and turn your car off. The first and easiest thing to check is your emergency brake. If the E-brake is fully released, get out of the car and check your brake fluid level.
Battery Charge Warning Light

As you might expect, this light looks like a car battery, and when it is active, it means your battery is not charging properly. Should the light stay on, it may indicate an issue with your charging system or a problem with your car`s electrical system.

EPC light on 2004 Jetta. Code said brake switch faulty, but brakes lights worked. Replaced brake switch, now no brake lights.
ANSWER : Hi there. The first thing that pops in my mind beyond of what you have listed is perhaps the electrical harness attached to the brake switch. Perhaps the harness itself is damaged or you have an exposed wire, loose ground wire somewhere. You might want to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a brake lights not working inspection to help you diagnose this issue.

When I put my foot on the brake my back left brake light goes off, when I take it off the brake the brake light comes on
ANSWER : I would suggest trying to disconnect and reconnect the wiring to the rear lights. I have seen these older Toyota vehicles rear lighting short out on the lights themselves due to the way the light circuit was made on the lamp housing. Look at the housing circuit on the light to see if one is touching another, and that could tell you why it is malfunctioning. There could also be a problem with the brake light switch. If you are not comfortable dealing with wires, I recommend getting in touch with a certified mechanic who can look at your brake light issue for you to see what’s going on.

My battery light came on when i was briving and so did some other lights on the dash board replaced battery and it still came on w
ANSWER : Hi there. What you are describing is common with an alternator failure or problems with the charging system in your Chrysler. The battery is supposed to supply power to the vehicle before starting the car, in which time the alternator takes over. If the alternator is damaged, the car will continue running off the battery and drain it. This is what tends to cause the clicking issue when you turn the key. It is probably a good idea to verify this problem before attempting repairs, by having a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a battery will not hold a charge inspection.

I have Chrysler 300c. Battery light came on, changed battery and alternator but power still getting drained and battery light still comes on.
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. This may be a sign of a failing starter relay. The starter relay is a small unit near the starter that directs power to the starter from the battery. When this fails, it may cause a clicking sound and will not allow the starter to engage the flywheel when you turn the key. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your home to diagnose your starting issue to determine the solution to get you back on the road.

Brake light and battery light flashing after replacing HID’s, alternator and battery
ANSWER : It sounds like it may just be happenstance that the HID light bulbs were replaced and then the other problems started. The battery light is set to come on when the vehicle detects the alternator output is below 12 volts. When the battery voltage drops too low, it can cause the ABS system to become disabled. A relay that is a bad or a faulty battery cable can also cause these symptoms. A qualified technician, like the ones at YourMechanic, will be able to diagnose your brake light and battery light issues and perform any repairs required.

The Battery Light is on and the lights and power mirrors are not working – 2002 Mercedes-Benz C320
ANSWER : Hi. If the Battery Light is on, this an indication that either the battery is bad, the alternator is not charging properly, or both of them are bad. Low battery voltage will cause the car to do abnormal things like have no headlights. There are other things that can cause headlights to not work as well, for example, a blown fuse, broken headlight relay, or, the most common cause, blown headlight bulbs.

I suggest you have a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to determine why the Battery Light is on and suggest the necessary repairs.

in my car battery warning light appearing while driving.so I have replaced both battery and alternater still light is on
ANSWER : As you may yourself have seen, there are many reports of this fault with the Civic, that is a battery or alternator is replaced only to have the warning light fail to extinguish despite checking every conceivable electrical possibility. Your only recourse is to have a certified mechanic go through that exercise with your car and that involves first attempting to "re-set" the light. If the warning light returns, the alternator output has to be carefully measured both loaded and unloaded. All terminal connections have to be verified including all grounds. Fuses have to be checked for integrity (continuity) and the possibility of shorts, in for example dash wiring, has to be checked. To request this repair, simply request an electrical components diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will seek a resolution to this.
