How often does my BMW needs new spark plugs? Spark plugs are designed to last the longest. In general, a spark plug can last up to 80,000 miles without causing trouble.
Spark plugs are designed for long-term durability, meaning that they only need to be replaced between every 80,000 and 100,000 miles. However, they can become damaged earlier than expected and require replacements to avoid pricey engine repairs.
Some Ladue drivers often wonder how often they need to change the spark plugs in their BMW vehicle. While experts generally recommend replacing them every 30,000 miles, it will vary depending on your specific model. Refer to your owner`s manual for specific information.
Even if you`re not having problems you`ll still want to have your spark plugs changed out at every 30,000 mile interval. For most drivers, that will mean that you`re due for spark plug service once every 2-3 years!
Most manufacturers recommend replacing spark plugs every 50,000 kilometres, but spark plug quality varies. Some last around 130,000 kilometres, while cheap plugs made of copper may last approximately 40,000 kilometres. “Extended life” spark plugs made of more resilient metals can last up to 160,000 kilometres.
Ordinary copper and nickel spark plugs should be changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, unless otherwise suggested by the spark plug manufacturer. Platinum and iridium spark plugs tend to last longer than standard copper and nickel spark plugs. Expect to change them every 60,000 to 150,000 miles unless otherwise noted.
The average cost for a BMW 328i Spark Plug Replacement is between $218 and $350. Labor costs are estimated between $150 and $189 while parts are priced between $68 and $161.

Plug broken. Safe for replacement? Pins are different
ANSWER : Although, I am not an electronics expert by any means, there are some basic electricity concepts that should apply in this case. First we need to identify what the ratings on the plug pertain to:
Amp – an ampere is the unit for measuring electricity. The accepted standard unit used for measuring how fast an electric current flows.
Volts – Electrical pressure is measured in Volts. How difficult it is to move electrons through a circuit is called resistance. Electrical resistance is measured in Ohms.
Watt – the basic unit of electric, mechanical, or thermal power in the SI and MKS systems, equal to one joule per second or 10 ergs per second (of a horsepower): for electric power it is equal to one volt-ampere.
Electricity is the flow of electrons through a conductor like a wire. The rate at which electricity flows is measured as an electric current. The electric current is measured in amps. What makes the current flow? In your case, the power cord (2.5v) is what creates the pressure to push the current through the power cord. The pressure is the voltage. If the pins on the plug are the same, this plug should work. The only question is the black pin on the top which may be purposely insulated for some reason. This may be worth looking into in case there is a necessity for this based upon the Sony Vaio manufacturer specs. Outside of the black insulated pin, everything else should work just the same. I would suggest looking into the insulated black pin however, before using this cord long term as it may protect against things like the cord overheating when charging, etc.

Spark plug chaos. Rubber stoppers are preventing the spark plugs from coming out.
ANSWER : Hi there. Try using a pair of small needle nose pliers to pull off the rubber boots from the spark plugs. As you pull, twist the rubber boots to break them free. Just replaced spark plugs and wires and my car is still miss firing and I can’t pin point why and my old spark plug is oil covered
ANSWER : Hello there, many faults will cause your 1988 Ford Contour to have a misfire even after the spark plugs were replaced. When oil is seen on the spark plug this indicates that the valve cover is leaking onto the plugs. When this happens it fouls the plugs and can cause a misfire. Until the oil leak is addressed the spark plugs will continue to become fouled. If the misfire persists there are many potential causes such as the plug wires, fuel pump, vacuum leak, oxygen sensor, MAF sensor, or the cap & rotor. A qualified Technician such as one from YourMechanic will be able to diagnose your misfire fault and make any repairs required to resolve the issue.
Engine light fault. There was a bad spark plug and a failed ignition coil. Replaced both the coil pack or spark plug.
ANSWER : Hi there. If the light is coming on then shutting off and returning on, then if the issue is for the same coil, there could be an issue with the wiring on the coil plug. Check the wiring on the coil plug and see if the wires are split, broken, or burned. If there is nothing wrong with the plug, then the main engine harness has an issue / short and may need replaced. If you need further assistance with your ignition system, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.
Misfiring Cylinder after replacing the plugs three months ago. Is it a chance that the whole batch of plugs may have been defective?
ANSWER : Hi there. The best thing to do is switch the coil over from cylinder 3 to cylinder 1 and see if the misfire continues with cylinder 3 or if it changes to cylinder 1. If the misfire stays with cylinder 3, then either the spark plug or spark plug wire has failed. Or there could be an issue with the cylinder not sealing or getting fuel. If the misfire changes to cylinder 1, then the coil pack is not working. If you need assistance with diagnosing your misfire, then I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you
