2010 Lincoln MKZ suspention
I was standing outside next to my car. It was parked on a slight grade. I heard a loud pop!! The car actually moved a bit.Now the car seems lower on the passengers side. I got it to flat ground and there is a popping noise when turning the wheel. I'm lost and I don't dare drive it.
My car has 130 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
From your description, it sounds like something in the suspension may have broken from age. If the vehicle is sitting lower, it could possible be a coil spring. The function of the springs is to carry the weight of the vehicle and maintain proper height. While not an everyday occurrence, coil springs can break with age. With the height being effected, a broken spring may very well be the culprit. Other possibility could be a ball joint. The ball joints connect the wheel hub to the upper and lower suspension components like an upper or lower control arm. If one breaks, the height can be effected as well.
The vehicle should certainly not be driven until a certified technician inspects the suspension system.
How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :
The adjustable suspension, called Continuously Controlled Damping, uses struts in front and a multilink arrangement in the rear.
However, the 2014 Lincoln MKZ`s standard, continuously controlled damping (CCD) suspension provides some protection against jarring impact and costly wheel/tire repairs from the dreaded highway pitfalls.
Twin-Turbocharged 3.0-Liter V6 Engine With 400 HP
* Plus, Dynamic Torque Vectoring** and a sport-tuned suspension** make every turn crisp and precise.
Any unusual shaking or vibrating forces coming from the engine is cause for concern. It could be something as simple as old spark plugs producing an uneven power delivery, it could be something serious like worn or broken engine mounts, or it could be even more serious in the case of internal engine damage.
The Lincoln Aviator has an available Air Glide Suspension, which replaces traditional hard coil springs with air bladders. These automatically inflate and deflate to help soften your ride, creating the sensation of riding on air, quite literally.
The front of your vehicle has a strut assembly to help absorb shock.
OEM shocks and struts perform perfectly for nearly all types of driving, last a long time, and perform better than aftermarket shocks in all but the most extreme situations.
In its first-generation lineup, the Lincoln MKZ came standard with a 3.5-liter V6 available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive, for the 2007 through the 2012 model years.
The available twin-turbocharged 2.7L V6 engine is ready for wherever the road takes you, delivering 335 horsepower* and 380 lb. -ft.
A loose or disconnected air hose or vacuum hose can cause quite a bit of violent shaking and vibration in your car`s engine. To correct the problem, simply look for any loose or disconnected hoses and reattach them and replace them as needed.
Worn or dirty spark plugs can cause a petrol car`s engine to misfire in one or more cylinders, which can cause vibrations when the car is idling or at running speeds. The easiest solution is to replace your spark plugs and check the related wiring. Engine vibrations can also be due to the air and fuel systems.
Shaking or vibration may be caused by things such as faulty spark plugs, poor fuel pressure or misfires. Other things such as a faulty idle air control valve may cause the engine idle to drop below the normal idling RPM which may also cause the motor to shake or vibrate more than normal.
Sport suspension refers to a suspension in which the combination of springs and shock absorbers is tuned more sportily than is usual for a standard suspension. This ensures better roadholding, especially in bends and when driving at high speed.
It is a good practice to replace the shock absorbers every 35,000 miles. You can easily find out if you need new shocks by doing a bounce test.

How much is the going rate on replacing engine? 2010 Lincoln MKZ
ANSWER : Hello – unfortunately, this is not a service YourMechanic can offer at this time. Thanks for thinking of us though!
Can a shocks or struts that fits the 2003 Lincoln Navigator also fits the 2003 Lincoln Aviator?
ANSWER : Hello – no, the Navigator is built on the very large SUV platform build by Ford (Expedition), whereas the Aviator is built on the Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer platform. If you are having problems with finding shocks and struts for your Lincoln Aviator, look at those part for the same model year for Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer. They will interchange, although they may ride slightly stiffer. Those components for the Navigator will not interchange. For assistance with this, I recommend strut/shock replacement performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, and make this repair for you.

Do I need to put the engine out of the car to replaced the water pump, and should I replace the timing chain? 2010 Lincoln MKX
ANSWER : Hi there – unfortunately, the high repair estimate for a water pump for this engine is legitimate. The water pump is driven by the timing chain, which means MUCH more disassembly is required, with all the headaches, and special tools required for resetting the cam timing, etc. Since the engine sits sideways (transverse) in this model, access to the "front" of the engine (passenger side of the vehicle) is non-existent, removing the engine is arguably a better approach for this job. YES, if you’re doing the water pump, do anything that even remotely looks like it needs attention for the cam timing gear. It will save money later on by avoiding repeated high labor cost. I recommend a water pump replacement and a timing chain service performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.
Can I make my 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer auto lock when putting it into D and unlock in R. 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer
ANSWER : Hi there. Unfortunately this vehicle will only work with the doors locking when putting the vehicle into drive and unlocking in park. There is no way for this to happen when putting the vehicle into drive. It can possibly be done with some rewiring of the circuits, but I would not recommend this as it would cause other issues.
will a 2002 Lincoln ls wheel bearing and wheel hub and sway bar fit a 2000 Lincoln ls?
ANSWER : The vehicles are only a couple of years apart, the bodes are similar and the engine choices are the same so they probably still share many components. You can do a search for parts between the two vehicles to see if the resulting part numbers match, then you can say for sure that the parts used are the same. For the best results to any repairs, replace the old worn parts with new ones of the proper fit for the correct year, make and model vehicle the parts are being applied to. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out and perform these services for you.
Have a 2010 Camaro V6 with error code P0008. 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V6
ANSWER : Hi there. P0008 is a generic OBD-II code indicating an issue with the engine control module (ECM) detecting a variation in the mechanical timing between the crankshaft and bank 1 camshaft. The ECM uses sensors to detect the position of the crankshaft and camshaft(s). From these sensor signals, the ECM controls ignition and fuel timing under various speeds and loads. Although it is possible the timing chain might be damaged, this is highly unlikely. It is probable that the issue is caused by a faulty crankshaft or camshaft position sensor. To correctly diagnose this issue, a detailed inspection would be required; but replacing the timing chain and internal components along with it could be costly.
2009 Lincoln MKZ vibrates between 25-40 mph
ANSWER : I would recommend having your wheel balance checked. Often times vibrations, such as those you are experiencing on your Lincoln MKZ, can occur while driving if the wheel balance of any of the wheels is out of specification by more than half an ounce. During the wheel balance check, I would also recommend that you have your suspension and brakes checked while the wheels are off.
This will ensure that the cause of the problem gets found even if the wheel balance turns out not to be the issue. Other issues that may occur would be warped rotors or loose suspension parts. If either one of these issues exist, the vehicle will not be safe to drive and the issue should be resolved as soon as possible. I suggest having the brakes, steering, and suspension inspected by a certified technician from YourMechanic before moving forward with a repair.
