There is a loose and intermittent connection but the question of course is "where". Occasionally, running the vehicle with a real time scanner attached, looking at charging system output, will yield the necessary clues. On your particular issue, sometimes the fault is found in the fuse relay box (bad, high resistance connections) and other reports have implicated bad connections to the PCM. Unfortunately, the only way issues such as this are resolved is by circuit traces but to do that in an organized fashion, so that you don’t miss anything, you have to have the Factory Service Manual wiring diagram in hand. If you do not have the wiring diagram, simply request an electrical circuit/component diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

To reset your Chevy Silverado`s anti-theft system, you put the key in the ignition and put your car into accessory mode—meaning the car`s electrical system is on but the engine is off. Leave your key in the ignition for about 10 minutes, then start up the engine. After all that, the security light should stop blinking.
The Chevy battery light comes on when there is a problem with the charging system. The most common cause of the Chevy battery light turning on is a bad alternator or a faulty voltage regulator. Other problems may include a bad battery, a faulty instrument cluster, a damaged wire harness, and loose contacts.
Put the key in the ignition and rotate forward two clicks to the “On” position that makes the dashboard light up, but don`t try starting the car. Leave the key there for 15 minutes; it doesn`t always take that long, but it can. After that time, check to see if the anti-theft light has gone out, if one was lit up.
If the security or anti-theft light is flashing when you attempt to start your car, and the engine does not crank or does not start, you have an anti-theft problem. The system may not be recognizing your key or keyless entry signal, or there may be a fault in the anti-theft module, keyless entry system or wiring.
If your ECU controls the anti-theft system, disconnecting the battery may lock you out of your car. Like desktop computers and most other electronics, disconnecting the battery cable for a short period will not fully reset your ECU due to the residual power remaining in the circuits.
What to do: Shut the lights off at the breaker and wait a full 30 seconds before turning the power back on. After this, the security light should come on for a short while then turn off again and go back to normal settings.
Put the key in the ignition, turn key to on position and leave it on until the security light goes out. Usually 15min. Once this happens crank the truck without turning the key backwards, just turn to start. This will reprogram the transponder from the ignition switch.
Your battery light, also called the dashboard battery indicator, is designed to let you know about an issue with your vehicle`s battery or charging system. It could indicate that your battery is damaged or worn out, or that the charging system is malfunctioning in some way.
A dashboard battery light basically means there`s a battery charging problem. Your car isn`t getting enough voltage from the car battery to operate properly. It needs more “juice!”
Where is the anti-theft fuse located? Normally, you may find it on the dashboard just in front of your left knee by the driver`s door. The alarm fuse might be located in this fuse box. Look at the fuse box on the driver`s side under the hood if you can`t find the alarm fuse inside the vehicle.
A lit security light indicates a problem in the car`s anti-theft immobilizer system. Try a new key or go to a mechanic to get it fixed. Your car`s security indicator light means there may be a problem with the anti-theft system, especially if you`re not able to turn the car on.
Placing the key inside the keyhole

You can bypass the immobilizer by placing the key in the keyhole hence deactivating the car`s immobilizer to remote start.

That`s the Security Indicator Light , and it`s blinking, it`s telling you that the car`s security sytem is armed. When the car is locked and off, the Security Indicator Light will blink steadily. It will trigger shortly after the engine has been turned off and the key has been removed from the ignition.
Car alarms rely on the electronic component of the vehicle, and disconnecting the battery should both silence the siren and reset your alarm. Open up the hood, locate the battery, and with a wrench, remove the negative terminal. Then reconnect it after a minute has passed.
A car`s anti-theft system may activate if your key fob battery is dead and hasn`t disabled the system. Make sure the battery is installed correctly in your key fob. If the battery is correctly installed, replace it with a fresh battery and try again.

Check the door lock

In some cases, the car`s anti-theft system is linked to a door lock mechanism. To disable it, you need to locate a small switch or release lever on the door panel and engage it. This will cause the car`s security system to be disabled.

The Interior Movement Sensor monitors the interior of the vehicle with ultrasonic waves. If it senses movement or unauthorized entry, it can activate the vehicle alarm, which will trigger the horn, siren and vehicle lights as well as the Surround Vision Recorder, if equipped.

in my car battery warning light appearing while driving.so I have replaced both battery and alternater still light is on
ANSWER : As you may yourself have seen, there are many reports of this fault with the Civic, that is a battery or alternator is replaced only to have the warning light fail to extinguish despite checking every conceivable electrical possibility. Your only recourse is to have a certified mechanic go through that exercise with your car and that involves first attempting to "re-set" the light. If the warning light returns, the alternator output has to be carefully measured both loaded and unloaded. All terminal connections have to be verified including all grounds. Fuses have to be checked for integrity (continuity) and the possibility of shorts, in for example dash wiring, has to be checked. To request this repair, simply request an electrical components diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will seek a resolution to this.

The Battery Light is on and the lights and power mirrors are not working – 2002 Mercedes-Benz C320
ANSWER : Hi. If the Battery Light is on, this an indication that either the battery is bad, the alternator is not charging properly, or both of them are bad. Low battery voltage will cause the car to do abnormal things like have no headlights. There are other things that can cause headlights to not work as well, for example, a blown fuse, broken headlight relay, or, the most common cause, blown headlight bulbs.

I suggest you have a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to determine why the Battery Light is on and suggest the necessary repairs.

I have Chrysler 300c. Battery light came on, changed battery and alternator but power still getting drained and battery light still comes on.
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for writing in. This may be a sign of a failing starter relay. The starter relay is a small unit near the starter that directs power to the starter from the battery. When this fails, it may cause a clicking sound and will not allow the starter to engage the flywheel when you turn the key. I would suggest having a professional from YourMechanic come to your home to diagnose your starting issue to determine the solution to get you back on the road.

Battery light goes on when I start car then turns off, if I rev engine light comes back until rpms go down. Abs goes comes on/off
ANSWER : Batteries can die due to faults in the charging system so ideally a suspected "faulty" battery should be load tested before a decision is made to condemn it. The only exception to this rule is if the battery is already clearly "old" (greater than 5 years) but even then once you put a new battery in, as a replacement for a "dead" battery, you have to comprehensively check out the charging system. Diagnostic Trouble Code P0460 will result in disruption of the dashboard fuel gauge’s ability to accurately report your tank’s fuel levels. The fuel gauge readings may be erratic, or read somewhere off scale. Vehicles equipped with a low fuel warning light feature may also suffer from erratic low fuel warnings in the event of a code P0460. Unless the P0460 code has been reported alongside other trouble code, all of the vehicle’s essential systems should otherwise function normally. I would recommend that you request a check engine light diagnostic to first resolve the fault causing the P0460 code to set. The check gas cap light warning light could be due a faulty gas cap and/or small leaks in the EVAP system.

Car battery light is on
ANSWER : The battery light comes on to indicate that the charging voltage is low. It usually means there is a problem in the car’s charging system. if the battery is in good condition, the car can still run for a short time until the battery voltage begins to drop. You did the right thing by going straight home. The first thing you want to do is make sure your alternator belt is intact and tight. If the belt is gone, that may be the only problem that you have. Nevertheless, the next thing to do is to have the battery load tested . If you have never replaced the battery in your car, it’s probably about due for one. Replacing the battery probably won’t make the light go out. but having a good battery is necessary for testing the alternator. Once you are satisfied that there is a good battery in your car, weather it is the original or a new replacement, you can load test the alternator. You’ll probably find that it’s not performing as it should and needs to be replaced. The tests I’ve recommended require special equipment that I’m guessing you don’t have. By contacting Your Mechanic, you can have a technician come to your home with the right tools to check out your car and advise you as to what needs to be done.

My brake light and battery light turned on
ANSWER : Hi there, thanks for writing in to YourMechanic.com about your 2008 Nissan Altima. When the brake light and battery light both illuminate, it’s sometimes caused by an electrical relay or damage to a sensor which triggers an error code that triggers these lights. The best way to find the source of the issue, is to contact one of our mechanics and ask them if they can complete a battery light is on inspection. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Car battery light is on replaced alternator battery and starter and battery light is still on.
ANSWER : You may have a failing voltage regulator that could be allowing the alternator to supply too much or too little amperage to the battery resulting in the battery never maintaining a consistent charge as it is designed to. The voltage regulator is a unit that regulates the charging of the battery by the alternator. When the voltage regulator is not working properly, this may result in the alternator allowing too much power to be delivered to the battery resulting in damaging wires and prematurely sometimes destroying the battery. A common sign of this is usually the acid inside the battery boiling causing the battery to swell. You may also smell a bit of smoke due to things potentially getting too hot. In other cases it may result in the alternator not supplying enough power to the battery, resulting in undercharging the battery or not charging it at all. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose your vehicle’s charging system.
